“I’m fine.” He gets to his feet, the frosty expression on his face filled with begrudging respect before he emits a vile laugh. “What can I say? I like a challenge.” He licks his lips lasciviously, staring at Mackenzie.

His words make me feral, and I move to attack him again, but Mackenzie stops me, a warning tone in her voice. “No, Chase. Stay with me.”

“Yes, Chase, stay with the girl.” His voice is full of contempt. “Pity I can’t stay and play, but I have things I need to do.” His black eyes move to Rosario. “Don’t untie their wrists.” He gives Rosario a look and before we can react, the two of them descend on us, shoving us to our backs, before rolling us over. Rosario binds Mackenzie’s ankles while she kicks and screams. I’m grunting and fighting against Orpheus, but his chilling words stop me. “Stop fighting us or we’ll drug her. This time she won’t wake up until it’s time for the ritual.” His weight presses me into the hard floor as he leans over me. Gritting my teeth, I try not to make a sound or reveal how much pain I’m in. “Behave or I’ll be even more violent when I fuck her. I’ll fuck her ass before allowing my men to have a turn.”

I still, the fight draining out of me as my eyes move to Mackenzie. The fear in their depths tells me she heard what Orpheus said.

After binding us, Orpheus carries me, then Mackenzie, to the chair, tossing her into it so hard it nearly topples over. I lean forward, grabbing onto her hands, keeping her from falling.

“I have things to do.” His gaze is on Rosario before he spins, his black robe flying behind him as he heads toward the stairs.

Once he’s gone, Rosario sets the food tray on the small, dusty table. “Eat, children. While you can. If you haven’t eaten when he returns, he’ll be furious and won’t give you anything else.” She pulls a taser from the pocket of her long dress, her eyes on me. “I’m an excellent shot. Don’t make me prove it.”

A long silence stretches between us as Mackenzie and I awkwardly sit on the broken, unsteady chairs and begin eating. The sandwich is tasteless, my thoughts on trying to escape with Mackenzie before Orpheus can complete this ungodly ritual.

“Why do you tolerate this… lifestyle?” Mackenzie’s question is directed at Rosario, and so out of the blue, I freeze with the sandwich halfway to my lips.

Rosario stares at her so long I begin sweating, worried she’s going to squeeze the trigger of the taser.

Finally, Rosario says, “Not open for discussion.”

Mackenzie shoots me a look, but I shake my head. With a sigh, Mackenzie continues listlessly picking at her food. “Please eat, angel.”

“I’m trying.” Her lip quivers. “I’m afraid they drugged it, and Orpheus will do something terrible to me while I sleep.”

I’ve already considered that, but I know we need our strength if we have any chance of escape. “I won’t let that happen, angel. Now, eat.”

A slight shiver rolls through Mackenzie as soon as I issue the command. A smile stretches across her lips. “Yes, sir.”

Jesus Christ. My body heats and my dick swells again. If our legs weren’t bound, I’d risk dying for one chance to be between her thighs.

MACKENZIE

As the last rays of the sun disappear from the sky, I heave out a long sigh. After staring at the sunlight peeking through the bars on the windows, I felt like I was going insane, desperate to be outside and feel the warmth of the sun on my skin. I pictured Chase and I running through the forest so many times, I felt the cool autumn air blowing across my skin, the leaves crunching beneath our feet, not caring that we had no damn idea where we were or if we’d ever make it out of the woods alive. All that mattered was that we weren’t in the attic withthem.

Then my gaze would move from the windows to my bound wrists and ankles, and I’d suck in a breath, choking back the tears. How in the hell I can cry so much that I have any tears left is beyond me.

We’ve seen the sun rise and set, but after being drugged so much by these freaks and not having our cell phones, who knows what time or day it is or how long we’ve been held captive in this godforsaken attic.

The maple tree in the distance reminds me of home, which causes a pang of remorse to hit me in the chest. My parents must be so worried. They must know we’re missing by now, especially since we are responsible and never out past curfew.

Despair fills me. I wonder if I’ll ever see them again. First, they lost Gavin, and now Chase and I are missing. This must be killing them.

Feeling Chase’s intense gaze on my face, my head turns to his. Worry lines his face as he lays on his side beside me, his wrists and ankles bound by rope, just like mine.

“What are you thinking, angel?” His voice is gruff and low, his head flat on the stained mattress. Of course, our captors didn’t give us pillows. Hell, we’re lucky they left us with this scratchy old blanket.

“Depressing thoughts I don’t wanna disclose.” I wiggle my fingers, the ropes cutting into my wrists.

Chase stares at me silently, not saying a word. But the furrowed brows and frown on his face tell me he’s prepared to wait until I finally confess what’s bothering me.

“I know I shouldn’t, but I can’t help but think of my parents. About… Never seeing them again.”

“Kenz, no.” Chase frantically shakes his head, his eyes imploring. “Don’t think that way. We’ll get out of here.”

I want so badly to believe him, but Orpheus is such a formidable obstacle.
