“You didn’t tell me if anything happened recently, so there’s something you’re not telling me, now,” Aurora continues.

“And I’m not planning on telling you any time soon.”

She blows out a breath of air, leaning her head on the back of the seat for a second before coming back with more questions. “Come on. What’s going on? Why is Lorenzo mad at you?”

I wish I knew.

“I don’t know,” I tell her the honest truth. I have no idea why he’s mad, I have no idea why he suddenly attacked me. I don’t know anything.

She sighs, turning around to look at her phone. I do the same, returning to look out of the window. How high in the sky we are. How low underground my soul is. My heart is. Still feels like hell. It shouldn’t. I shouldn’t be this attached. I should easily be able to let this go. To forget about it. Yet it’s like there’s a thread, connecting me to her. I glance at her, on the other side, talking to Ellie. She isn’t wearing a wig now, or contacts. Her golden hair shines freely. Her green eyes sparkle every now and then. She looks like a star, one of the brightest in the sky.

However, she keeps cutting the thread into pieces.

Chapter 64 – Ventuno

Val

The plane lands smoothly, although Ellie is still pretty shaken. Our hotel is in the center of Manhattan, so it’s around an hour away. But the bags take a while to appear, so it takes us some time to get out of the airport. Luckily, Elias and Lorenzo don’t fight or argue. I guess the trip tired them enough not to. I still can’t believe this is happening, though. Lorenzo thinks Elias is a horrible person, and Elias doesn’t know what Lorenzo thinks. In both scenarios, I am the cause, andI’ma horrible person. I can’t look Elias in the eye. How am I supposed to?

We get into the cars so we can be transported to the hotel, and Ellie taps on my shoulder. “I’m tired,” she says in a sleepy voice. Elaina has a chain reaction, yawning. I bring my hand to her hair to stroke it softly.

“You’ll sleep when we get there. Hold on a little more,” I tell them both. Lorenzo and Elias are sitting on the opposite side, each at either corner. Neither are looking at me, or each other, instead choosing to look out of the window.

“Hey, you okay?” I hear Aurora ask. I turn around to look at her, realizing how absent I have been for the last couple of hours.

“Yeah, I’m great. I’m sorry about earlier, I just didn’t have a fight planned for the trip,” I apologize, twisting my body toward her.

“It’s okay. I’m just still surprised about all of it. That you’re Violet, who I have known for around two months.” She exaggerates her features, and I smile.

At least she’s still happy. I didn’t cause chaos for all three of them. “Well, now you can brag to everyone else that a celebrity chose you as a friend,” I tell her, and even in the dark, I can see her face light up. I can at least make her happy. She deserves it.

After a while, the vehicle stops at the hotel’s drop-off location, and we get out with all the baggage. Oliver and Lorenzo, since Elias has a broken arm, take the luggage, while each person takes their bags. We go up to floor that’s been booked for us and place all the stuff. Two rooms, separated by a one hallway—which is locked from outside access. One big room, one small one. The plan was for Lorenzo and Elias to be in the small room, which is only one bedroom. Aurora, Elaina, Ellie, and I would be in the big room, which is a suite with two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a living room. Both have bathrooms, obviously. That way, we can keep an eye on Ellie and Elaina. It was a good idea at the time. Not so much anymore.

But I can’t change this like I could the seating plan. They have to be together.

Ellie and Elaina drop onto their beds and fall asleep almost instantly. Plane trips are tiring, so I’m not surprised they’re so exhausted. I want to fall asleep just as much, but I don’t know how I’m going to with the other two fighting.

I turn toward Aurora, “You should go rest, I’ll see what to do with them,” I tell her.

“No, I’ll come with you,” she answers, and I feel a sense of relief. At least I won’t be there alone. I don’t think I can confront both of them alone.

We get to their room, where they’re both silent. They’re each sitting on the bed, completely ignoring each other. Elias still has a purple eye. The one Lorenzo gave him. The one he got because of me. I want to say something. Apologize, to both of them. To tell them it’s all a misunderstanding. That things have just been going very fast. But I can’t. No words are able to come out. They don’t want to. Who am I to say anything?

Aurora speaks for me instead, “Are you guys just going to hold a grudge for the next three weeks or not?”

“Mm-hmm.”

“Exactly.”

They say simultaneously, keeping their heads in the opposite direction. Aurora sighs at them, and I just stand there. I know I have to do something. I pin my hands to my stomach, and take a deep breath as I shift my eyes between them.

“Why are you guys angry at each other, anyway?” Aurora asks.

“He attacked me out of nowhere, that’s why I’m angry. How about you, Lorenzo, what’s your excuse?” Elias states, turning his head toward Lorenzo.

Lorenzo grins, in a mocking manner, before answering. “Oh, so innocent, aren’t you, you asshole!” He rages, before they both turn back and sit in silence again.

This is going horribly. I close my eyes for a second, trying to pull myself together. “Guys, please, we’re spending three weeks here.Youboth are spending three weeks here, together. I’m not telling you to go back to normal, I’m just asking that you don’t fight. That you understand what’s going on.” I look at Lorenzo, directing the words to him. I need him to understand what’s going on. To believe me.
