“It was half a day. Plus, I was a brunette most of the time you knew me, anyway” I tell him.

“Your hair was hidden but you’re still a blonde. And curly hair suits you more. It’s like nature knew exactly what to give you when you were born.”

I giggle. Yes, it’s my natural hair, itshouldsuit me. He then lets go of my hands, and walks over to the couch, sitting on it.

“So, how was the drive back anyway?” he asks.

“Weird. I don’t get why everyone feels like helping out these days, though.”

He snickers. Yeah, laugh. It’s only funny because he wasn’t there.

“Come on. Aurora’s a very big fan of you, you know. She’s listened to and has memorized almost all your songs. Me knowing you is probably the only thing she likes about me.”

I don’t know whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but I’m not surprised. What’s surprising is how many times Lorenzo has told me something like that.

“Let’s hope that doesn’t make her suspicious,” I tell him. If she looks into it enough, she’ll be able to connect the dots, especially if she knows I’m Lorenzo’s friend. It wouldn’t be too hard to figure out who I am.

“I’m sure she won’t. She isn’t much of a detective. Elias, on the other hand, is very capable of figuring out who you are if he’s suspicious enough.”

Great. Just what I need. I walk toward him and sit on the couch next to him. I drop my head into my hands. “I’m going to get caught, I already know it,” I say. I’m going to mess upthis event, then Oliver is going to kill me. Then I’m going to kill myself. Not literally though.

“I’m sure you won’t. You’re good at keeping secrets,” Lorenzo tells me. I hope I am. I trust him. If he’s on my side, then I have a better chance at doing this right. He’s my good luck charm. And in this situation, my one and only.

Chapter 7 – Settantotto

Val

“So, what classes do you have today?” Aurora asks.

It is my fourth day in school, and nothing has happened, thankfully. I’ve stayed as far away from Lorenzo as possible, trying not to show off any connection with him. That also means I haven’t talked with Elias much either. So, with no one else to talk to, I hang out with Aurora. She talks to Lorenzo and Elias every now and then, so I do get to see them. Lorenzo didn’t lie. Both Aurora and Elias are nice people. Though I still have trust issues when it comes to Elias.

“I honestly don’t remember. The schedule is still pretty new to me,” I reply. School sucks, like it always did. I’ve never been a smart student, but I don’t blame that on myself. My education journey has been a mess, and I don’t know if that would’ve changed if I had been given a chance.

“I mean, almost all the classes are boring anyway,” she states as we walk through the halls of the second floor, where both our lockers are.

Aurora is a junior, like me, unlike both Lorenzo and Elias, who are in their senior year. It’s actually very annoying, considering I turn eighteen in February. But that, again, is me and my school journey’s fault.

“So, how do you like my cousin, even though you haven’t really hung out with him much,” she asks. The timing is great.

“He’s fine. I mean, he has been so far. He isn’t like his father, so that’s a good thing,” I tell her.

“You don’t like Roland?”

“It’s a bit more than that.”

“Don’t worry, not many people like him if I’m being honest. He’s greedy and arrogant." At least she agrees with me, and she doesn’t even know everything, yet.

“Isn’t he your uncle?” I ask her, raising an eyebrow.

“Yes. Doesn’t mean I have to like him. I respect, not like. He and my parents have had many arguments, so I’m allowed to have that opinion.” Nice to know. This helps a lot with my analysis. “Plus, trust me, he isn’t the best father. Elias has his moments of hating him.” Ironic. Roland. A bad parent? I don’t believe it.

The bell rings, causing a crowd to fill the halls. “Well, I better get to class. I’ll see you later.” Aurora says, turning the other way.

“See you!” I shout back, then continue on my way to class. I get to the door, and just as I start to open it, I’m startled.

“Hey Vi,” a voice says. I jump, turning around to see Lorenzo. God, he scared me. What is he doing here?

“Don’t creep up on me like that. What are you doing here?” I ask him.
