Elias:I mean, yes.

Elias:Is something wrong with that?

Elias:You don’t have to tell me anything if you don’t want to.

Me:No

Me:I just

Me:I can’t believe you’re checking on me

Elias:You didn’t look okay yesterday.

Elias:Anyone would ask what was wrong if they had seen you.

Me:So you’re not gonna use yesterday against me?

Elias:Why would I do that?

Me:Because I treat you horribly

Elias:No you don’t.

Elias:You just don’t like me.

Elias:And even if you did.

Elias:Doesn’t change the fact that you weren’t okay.

My heart starts to ache, and the longer I look at the messages, the warmer my body gets. I place my laptop to the side, sitting up straighter.

Me:I’m good

Me:I’m feeling better

Elias:That’s great.

Elias:It’s great that you’re okay.

Elias:I’m glad.

Hesitation stops me from replying for a full minute. I’m sure he’s already closed the messaging app so he can do other things by the time I begin typing again.

Me:Thanks

Me:For helping me

Elias:It was the least I could do.

I turn off my phone and set it on the side, on top of my laptop. My face is slightly warmer than usual. I wrap my arms around me softly. Elias Miller was checking on me.

Chapter 21 – Sessantaquattro

Lorenzo

I knock on the only beige door, waiting for someone to open it. The cold wind brushes against my face, my arms crossed to keep my jacket closed around me. The door finally cracks open, revealing a middle-aged woman with pale skin and brown hair. Confusion crosses her face when she sees me.

“Hey Lorenzo. It’s nice to see you,” she says by way of greeting.
