Me:Who is this?

Unknown:I’m her friend.

That is a lie, because unless Lorenzo got a new number, this is either a fake or a scam. Even if he did get a new number, he wouldn’t ask if it was me.

Me:Violet doesn’t have any friends that don’t know her number

Unknown:I know.

Unknown:So, this is Violet?

Who is this? Why do they want to find me? I look at the number, attempting to identify any part of it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this number in my life.

Me:I’ll answer when you answer my question

Me:Who are you

Unknown:Elias Miller.

Unknown:The guy you don’t like much.

What the hell? Why is Elias messaging me?

Me:How the hell do you have my number?

Elias:I don’t.

Elias:Hence why I asked if you were Violet.

Elias:Lorenzo called you from my phone once.

I remember the call Lorenzo made. I knew that was going to have some repercussions.

Me:How did you know which number to message

Elias:I didn’t,

Elias:Your number was one of twelve unknown number possibilities.

Me:Wait, what?

Me:So you’re telling me you just messaged almost twelve random numbers asking if they were me.

Elias:It was the only way I could find your number without having to ask anyone.

Me:You still haven’t told me why you needed my number

Me:Most importantly, why you need me

Elias:I wanted to check on you.

Elias:After yesterday.

Elias:I figured it wasn’t the best ideas to ask you in person since it was obvious you were avoiding me.

I look at the message in surprise, repeating it to myself again and again. He’s . . . checking on me? He did all that to find my number, just so he could check on me. I stare, disbelieving.

Me:You’re checking on me?
