This was a setup. It had to be.

Then-then that meant…

Oh my God.

No!

“Here kitty, kitty,” one of them taunted in a loud shout. “Come on out. We know you’re in there.”

FUCK.

My rounds were full, so I quietly shoved open the drawer to my nightstand and grabbed a hair-tie, hauling my red hair up and tying it in as tight of a high bun as I could manage.

“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” another one hollered. “You have three seconds to come out, or we’re coming in.”

“OH! LET ME GET MY BANJO!”

“Seriously?” one the triplets outrageously sneered.

“I’m feeling inspired to provide some background music.”

“Banjo! Don’t you fucking dare!”

“WEEELLLLLLLL…”

The lyrics to Cotton Eyed Joe poured out of Banjo’s mouth as he began playing the melody on that stupid fucking banjo, making me freeze and blink dumbfoundedly back at the window.

Shaking my head, I blocked the fucker’s horrendous singing out. Panic lit my soul on fire when I heard the front door get kicked off the hinges.

They’re coming…

My instincts screamed at me to run and hide, but my house was only so big and the only hiding spots I had were the most predictable ones: under the bed, the closet, and the bathroom.

I breathed in hard and put my battle face on, left with no other choice. If they wanted me, they were gonna have to fight like fucking hell to take me.

Go, Ginger. GO.

I moved as their footsteps raced inside and fired the first two shots no sooner than I saw Benny’s head peek around the corner. The fucker managed to dodge them and hide behind the wall. Quickly I ducked low behind the bed and rolled closer to the closet to avoid getting shot as Benny returned fire.

“She’s armed,” Benny called out to Bane as two more shots pierced the air, making me fly back from the door as the bullets pierced through the wooden frame, sending splinters flying past my face.

I ran out the room, clipping Bane in the shoulder when he popped out, ready to shoot.

He fell to a knee, and just as I was about to put a bullet in the fucker’s head, a set of arms came out of nowhere and ferociously slung me inside the spare bedroom.

“No,” I screamed as I was tossed to the floor, cursing when one of the guns flew out my hand and slid under the bed. The other was by Benny’s feet. The asshole kicked it out into the hallway as he grinned at me.

“Hello love,” he said, making a kissy face. “Did you miss me?”

I got to my feet as a deep, maternal growl blossomed in my chest, my adrenaline spiking as I curled my fists and got in position.

He tsked. “If you insist.”

Benny charged at me, choking on his breath when my fist shot out and clocked him in the throat. As he fell to his knees, I rushed to grab my seashell lamp off the nightstand, bellowing out a feral scream as I ripped the plug out the outlet and smashed the fucking thing over his head.

Banjo was singing louder than ever, and I huffed my annoyance as I swung my leg back and gave Benny one good, solid kick to the face.

I spun on my heel, eager to get to a gun, when Bane came out of no fucking where and roughly grappled my throat.
