“Areyougoingtothe party tonight?” Sky asked me Friday afternoon at lunch, picking listlessly at her food, sadness crossing her pale and yellowish-bruised face.

The Ravagers canceled their usual weekend party at the clearing, but a massive group text got released earlier this morning stating that Kinsley Sinclair’s roommate volunteered to host tonight’s weekly festivities at their dorm.

“I’d rather die,” was my humble reply. “But if you’re planning on going, then I won’t have much choice but to go. I’m not leaving you alone, not after you were almost kidnapped and with Brian still MIA.”

The asshat hadn’t come back at all this week. When Sky and I returned to classes on Tuesday, we were both prepped and ready to deal with that asshole head-on. We’d planned to embarrass him; make a scene so that each and every female student here at the academy wouldknowjust how fallacious and disgusting Brian really is inside and out.

Brian could run all he wanted, but he couldn’t hide forever. He’d come back, and the truth would come out eventually.

But that picture…

My subconscious just wouldn’t let it go, bringing it to the forefront even now.

What if he sent it to someone? Shown it to his friends?

I rolled my eyes, dismissing it completely. Now look who’s paranoid.

Brian and Sky’s squabble happened on Saturday, and since Sky never bothered to check the timestamps to know when all of those photos of me were taken, we had no general idea on how long he had them. The photo of me and Isaac was a no-brainer. I knewexactlywhen that picture was taken. Ifthatspecific photo had been leaked, then the whole school would’ve been talking about it by now.

Sky let out a defeated sigh. “I-I don’t know what I want to do. I want to go, but then again, I don’t.”

I made a pained face, abruptly remembering something important. It was Friday. I had a mandatory meeting tonight with the Ravagers.

Damnit.

“I do have somewhere I have to be tonight,” I admitted. “It shouldn’t take long. If you want to go to Kinsley’s, then that’s fine. I can meet you there after I’m done.”

“I haven’t fully made my mind up yet. Either way, I’ll text you. Sound good?”

“Yeah. Sounds good.”

I searched the dining hall for Rhett and his brothers, hoping maybe they’d show their faces today. After my run-in with Rhett, it had been days since I’d seen him, Isaac, or Phantom around campus or in the dining hall. At first, I thought their absence was because of Brian. But then I remembered Rhett told me he’d contact me as soon as Brian was, as Rhett put it,handled. With it being radio silent, it had to mean the shit with Brian was still at a dead end. So, if my predictions were correct, they hadn’t been around thanks to the upcoming trials. The three of them must’ve been out there prepping…

Plotting…

Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.

My eyes lit up, and as I fetched my phone from my blazer pocket, I grinned, unable to contain my squeal when I saw Jace’s name on the screen. He tried to call me last night, but I’d crashed early and unfortunately missed it. I awoke this morning to find a text from him telling me to wait for his call around lunchtime today.

“Who is that?” Sky asked, being nosey.

“It’s-uh, my boyfriend…”

My cheeks reddened after the words blurted out.

“Boyfriend?” Sky sputtered, her eyes wide. “You didn’t tell me you had a boyfriend.”

“It’s kinda new,” I said, unable to stop the second wave of heat spreading along my cheeks.

But then I felt a little sting of guilt, which made me briefly clear my throat and put my phone down on the table.

“And it’s totally not a big deal.”

“Just go,” Sky tiredly groused, flicking a weak, dismissive hand at me. “We can catch up later.”
