Page 52 of Sinister Lies

If I was going to do this, then it was now or never.

I chugged down the golden liquor then crept forward to make yet another dumb ass decision I’d come to regret later.

I’d been searching for Rhett for over ten minutes, and there were no signs of him anywhere.

It was hot.Fuck, was it hot.

But that wasn’t what had me stumbling around and rushing over to press my back against the closest tree.

I felt… weird.

Not only was I burning up on the outside, butinside,it felt like a current of lava had flooded my veins. It started in my head and slowly filtered through every inch of my tiny frame, all the way down to the tips of my toes. It was so intense, even my home girl downtown was getting riled up.

What the hell was happening to me?

I’d never felt anything like this before. It was almost like I was… high, maybe?

My head felt funny, too. Everything seemed brighter, and if my blinking eyes weren’t deceiving me, the tree in front of me was distorting out of its usual shape and size, almost like it was… melting.

And that was when it hit me hard against my chest like a stack of bricks, stealing my breath.

Oh, no.

No, no, no… FUCK!

I pushed off the tree and merged back in through the traffic of bodies, my fury rising as each and every brush against my skin shot unwelcoming waves of pleasure soaring throughout my body. When I got close enough to the tree stumps, gaining a very wonky but somewhat clear visual of Isaac and Phantom sitting there, my eyes locked with Phantom’s first.

The asshole offered me a sinister grin, then raised his cup. Then he shot me a conniving wink just before he tipped his drink back.

That. Mother. Fucker!

I curled my trembling fists, advancing closer, when just like that I was halted in my tracks as a blurred outline of a woman approached Isaac.

Skinny. Long, wild hair. Nice body, too.

After another moment of unnecessary gawking, my lips parted when I recognized her. It was Kinsley.

Isaac reached inside some bag planted in front of his feet. When he pulled his arm out and looked up, he’d spotted me, delivering the same wicked grin Phantom had given me.

Then his arm shot forward and grasped Kinsley’s blouse. Watching their mouths clash together and how she literally dissolved in his embrace made me instantly tear my sight away from them and had my stomach doing backflips.

I stood there, breathing hard, scoffing as wet speckles began dotting over my eyes. Squeezing them shut, knowing it had to be the drugs making me react this way, I heaved in a deep, powerful breath and painfully blew it out.

It only made things worse because whatever the fuck Phantom dropped in my cup had kicked in full gear.

“Whoa,” I murmured, staggering a bit when someone came from behind me and caught me just before I fell. I started to thank whoever it was, but just as fast as it happened, their hands were gone, and so were they.

Another figurative knife plunged into my gut as I settled my tilted gaze towards an open path.

I’d finally found Rhett.

He was with Janice, one of Kinsley’s best friends. They were dancing, kissing. Touching and fondling all over each other.

I don’t know what came over me or how I’d managed to get there so fucking fast. My arm swung back, and then Janice was in the dirt, screaming at the blood pouring out of her nose.

“God damnit, Samara,” Rhett roared, stumbling as he dashed over to help Janice up.

He scoffed when she slapped him away and demanded for him to get the fuck away from her.
