“You.” Rhett’s chest violently heaved the longer he scrutinized me, his perfect jaw set.

Without another word and in a fast, terrifying blur, Rhett’s fingers were death gripped around my forearm. My confused clit throbbed as his dark pupils raked over me again in their glossy, exasperated state.

I was breathlessly yanked forward and despite how much I wanted to scream and growl my protest, I bit it back. This was exactly what I wanted—what I hoped would happen.

An amplified dose of fear coursed through me the deeper he tugged me through the woods. My head spun with dizzy images of uneven ground and spinning, sunken trees, until eventually our path led us to the lake. Several hundred feet away from the dock was a large building. I wasn’t really sure what the hell it was thanks to these fucking drugs pumping through my bloodstream, but a storage shed was my first guess.

Rhett led me there, shoved open the door, then closed it. As he flicked on the light, I hissed, swinging my free arm up to shield my eyes. In a flash of movement, I was pinned against the wall with Rhett’s hand locked around my throat.

“What. The fuck. Are. You. Doing?” His chest heaved harder. His alcohol saturated breath doused my face.

I started to open my mouth, but his hand squeezing tighter around my throat restricted my airway, summoning another whimpering pulse down to my clit. Hearing my cry, Rhett released my throat and grasped my face.

“Look at me,” he demanded in a low growl. “What did you take?”

I shivered again as his fingertips pressed harder on my skin. Rhett smirked like he knew exactly what was happening to me. “It was Phantom. He slipped something in my drink.”

Rhett released a dark chuckle, obviously not buying it. “You really expect me to believe that?”

I tried to level what I could of my hazy stare back to his eyes. “I don’t care if you believe me or not. It doesn’t make it any less true.”

He snorted and unhanded me. I expected him to back away, but he didn’t. He just stood there, glaring at me, his face and lips just three short breaths away from mine.

“What do you want, Samara? Why won’t you leave me be?”

“I know you killed Brian.”

He backed away, his shoulders coiling as he sucked in a breath.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because it’s like I said, it wasn’t important.Heisn’t important. Now, if you don’t mind, I have a party to go back to.”

“Why are you acting like this isn’t a big deal?” I asked, stumbling a few steps back to block his path to the door.

His body shook harder when my back pressed flush against the cool metal.

“Move, Samara. Now.”

“The police questioned me, Rhett. Sky, too. His parents reported him missing. You said you’d handle it. You didn’t say anything about killing him.”

“Move, Samara…”

“Why, Rhett? Why did you do it? Why would you put yourself in danger like that—”

“Because he fucking deserved it!”

My heart jolted as Rhett charged me and pounded his fists against the metal, right above my head. I didn’t flinch, nor did I dare move. All I could do was gape wordlessly up at him, my lips parted in a gasp.

“You haveno ideathe things he said to me. The things he said he’d do to you if he ever had the chance to get you alone again. He wanted tohurtyou, Samara.Rapeyou. I did you, Sky, and the whole fucking world a favor by sending him right where he belonged.”

My throat tightened at his words.

“I killed him because I care about you, Samara. But you knew that already.” He dipped his head closer to me, making a pained expression that internally broke me. “I wanted you so fucking much that night. I was ready to give you everythingI’d never given to any woman.”

“Rhett...” my voice cracked.

“Why are you doing this to me? How can you just stand there andpretendlike you care about me?”
