“We can’t do it, Phantom.Ican’t do it. It’ll put Rebel in even more danger than what she’s in now and I’m trying to—”

“Listen to me, Kaden.” I scrutinized him for a long moment, gnawing so hard on the metal pierced through my lip I could taste blood. “I know what you’re trying to do, and I’m sorry, but there’s nothing any of us can do about it. It won’t change what’s still to come. But what Icando is give you a little advice. You need to focus on finding him first instead of worrying about a plan. There’s nothing you can physically do until you have that key piece of information and due to your current situation, you’re already wasting time you can’t afford to lose. Go back to the very beginning, back when all of this started and focus on these three things.” I paused and held up said number of fingers. “The WHERE, the WHY, and the HOW. WHO and WHAT are explanatory in itself. You need to reevaluate every event, dissect the fuck out of them, put the pieces back together, then go handle your fucking shit before things get worse. Let me know how it goes—and oh… try not to die while you’re at it.”

Before he could squeeze out another word, I hung up, then sighed and leaned back in my seat.

“That was some pretty solid advice there, bro.”

My back stiffened as I spun in my seat, finding Rhett leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed tightly to his chest.“Wouldn’t hurt if you actually followed it for yourself.”

Rolling my eyes, I said, “You just now getting back from the crib?”

Rhett nodded and uncrossed his arms as he made his way into the room and sat on the end of Isaac’s bed. “Yeah. Dad wasn’t there. I called him like five times to let him know Isaac and I were dropping by, but he won’t answer the phone.”

“That’s surprising,” I grunted. “That isn’t like him.”

“Yeah,” my brother frowned. “I know. He’s probably busy. I’m sure he’ll call me back later. Anyway, that’s not really all that important right now. You’re never gonna guess who Isaac and I found freely parading around the house when we got there.”

I lifted my brows at him. “Who?”

“Ginger. Griffin’s girlfriend.”

“Wait, what?” I blinked at him, stunned, my brows pinched tight. “Why the fuck would she be there, inourhouse? I thought she was gone.”

“My thoughts exactly. It turns out Father and Griffin have been keeping a steady streak of secrets from us.”

I nodded. First it was Griffin and that whole Harvest bullshit, then Fathers lunatic behavior over Samara, and now this? Something was going on here, and I wanted some fucking answers.

“Did you find outwhyshe’s there?”

Rhett’s lips tilted in a humorous smirk. “I did.”

“Well don’t hold it in for dramatic effect,” I spat. “Why the fuck is she in our house?”

“Ginger said that she just showed up. Claims Griffin nor Father knew anything about it until she got there.”

“And how long has she been there?”

“Over a week. Eight days according to Ginger’s math. She said Father agreed to temporarily house her there on Griffin’s behalf. She claims she came back to help us fight.”

That answered my next question, which was why in the ever-loving fuck would that woman make the idiotic mistake of coming back after our father and crew put their necks on the line to rescue her from enslavement.

But to fight? She seriously came back to help usfight?

“Oh my fucking GOD,” I growled, scoffing as the puzzle pieces started falling into place.

It was all a sham. Father fucking lied to us.

“Those goddamn triplets wereneveraiming to attack the academy, Rhett. Father only said that shit to keep us away from home. He didn’t want us to know Ginger was there. He fucking played us!”

I extracted the calmest breath I could muster and released it, my hands shaking as I tried to scrub away the tension marring my face. Father and all of this deceptive negligence was really starting to carve a prickly path under my skin.

“Isaac and I figured that out for ourselves too. But before you burst a blood vessel, Isaac is handling it. He’s still at the house with Ginger.”

I snorted at that.

“He says he’s gonna booze her up and see how much info he can sweet talk out of her before Father returns. He might pull a rabbit out of the hat, but just in case he doesn’t, it might not be a bad idea to call Jace. I tried calling Griffin, but his phone is off, and there’s no telling what sketchy shit Damien has him buried in right now, so, Griffin will probably be out of reach for a while. And with how Father’s been acting…” Rhett blew out a long sigh and shook his head before getting to his feet. “Just get in touch with Jace and see what he knows. Not trying to throw any shade here, but we probably would’ve known about this shit ahead of time if it weren’t for you and Isaac being spineless jackasses.”

He took his leave then and shut the door behind him, leaving me alone to reflect. I couldn’t believe I was saying this, but I was inclined to agree with him. Depending on Father or Griffin to relay any critical information like this to us after the shit I pulled at the Gentlemen’s club, and after what Isaac and I did to Jace, was utterly useless. I still don’t regret what we did though. Regardless of what anyone had to say about it, it was the right call.
