“Answer me, Jace,” my voice shook.

“It’s… It’s complicated, Kitten.”

“Then let’s uncomplicate it, shall we? You talk, I’ll listen.”

Jace winced a little as he sat up in his bed. He licked his lips, a worried storm brewing in his eyes. “Leads were cold for a while. That much is true. Everything was great until Father received a phone call from the Bling Brothers.”

My breath caught as he paused for a short moment.

The Bling Brothers.

Fuck.

If Damien got them involved, then things were so much worse than I’d thought. The triplets were heathens, looters, the worst of the fucking worst of the Outlaws. Chaos and havoc were literally hotwired into their DNA. They’d demolish anyone or anything in their paths if it meant ensuring their success.

“There’s this woman… Cindy,” Jace continued. “She helped us save Ginger and escorted her and the other girls to the airport in Clover Bay. Finn was supposed to contact Phantom and have him wipe the airport's security tapes, but he forgot. The triplets found Cindy and delivered her to Damien.”

My throat grew so dry and tight it was all I could do to breathe, let alone speak. All I could do was gape at him on the screen, emotionally stunned.

“Wh-what happened to her?” I finally managed to stammer out. “Is-is she dead?”

Nausea burned up my throat when he nodded, a heavy frown sweeping over him. “She’d been beaten, tortured, and sexually brutalized by Father’s hand for days. She suffered unimaginable horrors and gave himnothingin return.” His gaze grew distant as he inhaled a sniffle, his throat bobbing. “She saved us, Kitten. She sacrificed herself so the rest of us could live.”

“But I… I don’t understand, Jace. I know you and Ginger made a deal with the Ravagers, but nobody said anything about this Cindy girl being involved. Is she a Ravager?”

Jace shook his head. “No, Cindy wasn’t a Ravager, but she was affiliated with one. Phantom.”

I narrowed my dark gaze on him. “What do you mean she wasaffiliatedwith Phantom?”

“She was his best friend, Kitten. She meant as much to him as Ginger means to us.”

The nausea amplified, and I just knew at any second that I was going to puke.

Oh my God…

Oh. My. Fucking. GOD!

I literally leaped off the bed, luckily making it to the bathroom just before vomit had started spewing out of my mouth. I got it all out, cursing in disgust as I wiped the sides of my mouth.

“Kitten!? Baby, are you okay?”

I grabbed the phone from off the floor and met Jace’s worried gaze.

“I gotta go, Jace.”

“Whatever you’re about to do, don’t. Stay out of it, Samara. Let Xavier and Finn handle—”

I hung up, shutting the device off and placing it on the counter, not caring that I’d catch shit for it later. I needed a minute to think and calm my strained nerves.

But first, I had to brush my teeth.

When that was done, I reentered my bedroom, frowning down at what could be the greatest or worst gift anyone has ever given me.

“Fuck,” I muttered to myself, shaking my head as dropped to my knees and fetched the duffel under my bed, opening it up.

I eyed over the contents, unsure what to do. After a moment’s consideration, I sighed and began stripping out of my clothes, knowing good and damn well that going in unarmed was suicide.
