“No,” I said through a choked sob, shaking my head as I dialed Jace again just to get the same result. “My-my boyfriend works at that club. His-his phone is off.”

“Oh, fuck,” Sky muttered, her mouth falling open a little, her eyes wide. “Was he working last night?”

I sure as fuck hope not.

“I-I don’t know, but I’m going to find out. I gotta go see if he’s alright.”

“Do you want me to come with you?”

I shook my head and dashed to my closest, pulling my clothes out. “No. I’m gonna have one of the guys give me a ride. Just stay here and I’ll call you as soon as I know something.”

Sky offered me a sad frown, but she nodded and turned on her heel, leaving the room so I could get dressed. When I walked out, I found her sitting on the couch still watching the news.

I listened in while I fetched my shoes and began putting them on. So far, they had no leads on the man responsible, not even his name. But they also didn’t exclude the possibility of it being gang related either.

Bidding Sky farewell, she wished me good luck and then I was off, running for the elevators like my fucking life depended on it. When they opened, I bolted. I didn’t stop moving until I’d reached the other side of campus.

I made it to room R3 and banged three hard times with my fist, waiting.

“Open the door!” I shouted. “Please open the door!”

I heard theclickingfrom the locks and as the door opened, I ran right past Rhett, gasping in utter fucking surprise when I laid eyes on Jace standing in the middle of their living room with both Isaac and Phantom at his sides. In some weird way, it almost felt like they were waiting for me.

“Jace.”

He opened his arms when I ran to him, instantly capturing his lips with mine. I peppered kisses all over every inch of his face and held him as tight as I could, my heart pounding.

He was alive.

He was safe.

He was…here.

“What the fuck happened last night?” I demanded, pulling away and taking in the worrisome stares plastered on each of their faces. Except for Jace, none of them would look me in the eye.

“What the fuck did you do?”

“It was Xavier,” Jace spoke when nobody else would. They all looked like shit, like they’d barely slept and had aged at least ten years overnight. “He and Rhett… They saved me, Kitten. They faked my death so we could be together…”

“What?” I glared between my Ravagers, taking in not only their guilt, but the tears shimmering beneath their exhausted eyes. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“We were ordered not to,” Rhett mumbled, sniffling and trying his hardest not to break down.

Something's wrong.

“There’s something you’re not telling me.” I swallowed hard, my breath shaking as I peered between each of them again.

Still, they refused to look at me.

“You might want to sit down, Kitten,” Jace whispered, his voice cracking. “I’m afraid we have a lot to talk about.”

Iglared out the window as my driver leisurely drove past the damage, my jaw indignantly tight. My club, my faithful employees, over two dozen of my men, and half of my precious merchandise had been wiped from existence, and I couldn’t so much as set foot on the property to personally investigate thanks to the media, reporters, and the line of Storm Ridge PD officers blocking access from all standpoints.

“Is he here?” I asked Gregory.
