The man blinked twice at my weapon before he stumbled a few steps back, his eyes blown wide in pure terror.

And then he ran off like a pussy.

Others who witnessed the altercation just carelessly turned their heads away like they hadn’t seen or heard a thing.

“That was badass,” spoke a feminine voice no sooner than I sat back down. How much longer do I have to sit here and fucking wait?

“Thanks,” I replied, obviously aware that it was me she was speaking to.

“I haven’t seen you around here before. Are you new to Storm Ridge?”

I turned to glare at the woman, hoping she’d catch the fucking hint that I wasn’t in the mood to chat and just leave me be. Still, the pretty dark brunette did nothing but smile innocently at me.

“No,” I said thickly. “I’m not. Bars aren’t really my thing, but unfortunately, I’m meeting someone here tonight.”

“Sounds scandalous,” she answered, seeming amused as she gave me one good, thorough onceover. “And yet you’re dressed up like it’s some kind of hot date.”

“It’s a work thing,” I muttered through gritted teeth. “Formal attire only. I was told to look my best.”

“Sounds to me like you might be getting a big promotion or something.”

I snorted. “I highly doubt that.”

“Um…Miss?”

My head damn near did a full 360 when I felt a hand wrap around my shoulder. Relief swept over me when the hostess instructed me to follow her.

“Right this way, please.”

The unknown stranger wished me good luck and as I followed the terrified woman, studying everything as she led me through the kitchen and down a small hall, there was a door at the end.

The hostess blew out a shaky breath before she got herself together and nodded.

Before she could open the door, I gripped her wrist and yanked her close to me.

She blinked up at me with wide, frightened eyes.

“How many?” I whispered softly.

“I-I’m sorry?” she stuttered like she was confused, her body trembling beneath my grip.

“How many are in there with Damien?”

“Just one. I-I think it’s his son.”

My stomach fell straight to my ass.

Jace…

He-he's alive!

Squaring my shoulders in a professional manner, I smiled sweetly and said, “Thank you. That’s all I needed to know.”

She nodded and then turned to face the door when I released her, knocking twice before pushing it open.

“Are you ready, Sir?”

“Yes. Send her in.”
