They had to believe me.

They just had to…

FUCK.

I needed them to believe me!

“It’s my belief Xavier sent Finn undercover to spy on me. Do you know why that is?” Damien asked, his brows furrowing as he observed me through tight eyes.

I answered honestly. “I don’t. Xavier and his sons never told me why.”

“And you didn’t think to ask?” His grip on my thigh tightened, growing painful.

“I did,” I faithfully lied. “But they refused to tell me. I did exactly what you suggested. I seduced all three of them, and theystilldon’t fully trust me yet. They’re not going to unless I prove myself and become a Ravager.”

I paused, taking a moment to breathe through the pain and lick my dry lips.

Please don’t hate me.

Please don’t get angry.

“Tonight, me being here, thisis my second trial, Damien. They knew they couldn’t set foot in your territory and hell, even I knew it, which is why I convinced them to let me come here alone. They think I’m here trying to strike a deal with you.”

Damien’s grip on my thigh relaxed.

“Is that so?” he asked, cocking one of his thick eyebrows at me.

“Yes,” I sneered. “I’m with you, Damien. The plan hasn’t changed. After tonight, I’ll be one step closer to discovering all of their secrets. Once I’m a Ravager, thereal funcan begin.”

He nodded thoughtfully to that and then looked back at Banjo, ordering him to leave the room.

Banjo hesitated for a long moment and if my eyes weren’t deceiving me, it looked like he was grinding his teeth.

He was angry.

But… why? That didn’t make any sense to me.

When Banjo was gone, Damien turned to me and asked, “Are the Ravagers planning any form of revenge in Finn’s honor?”

I shook my head. “Not that I’m aware. Xavier’s sole focus lately has been on nothing but the trials. If he is planning anything, it’s likely only his street crew would know. I was told I’d be meeting them soon. I can gather whatever intel I can, then.”

A thick, angry muscle popped along his jaw. “When is your final trial?”

Much to his dismay, all I could do was shrug and shake my head. “I honestly don’t know. Xavier doesn’t notify the recruits until the exact day and time of.”

Damien furiously cursed under his breath, pulling away from me long enough to rub a stressed hand across his prickly jaw, the devil flashing through his eyes.

“With all due respect, Boss,” I nervously muttered, licking my lips. “What exactly is the plan here? Xavier told me you already have Crane, Alesi, and Sinclair on your side. If that’s true, then why are you—”

“That,” he cut me off in a low, villainous growl, “is none of your concern.”

“But it is,” I voiced softly, making a foolish but bold move by reaching over and grasping Damien’s hand. I squeezed it tight, which made him turn and abruptly lock eyes with me. “I am an Outlaw, Damien. I’ve done everything you’ve asked me to andnot once have I ever questioned you. I need to know what the next steps are once I pass this last trial.”

“Sorry, my Queen, but no. I can’t risk—”

I jerked my hand out of his and rose to my feet, pinning him with a nasty glower while snorting angrily under my breath. “Are you fucking serious right now? I’m out there risking my life, Damien, knowingthey’ll kill me if they find out who I really am. Are you saying you don’t trust me?”

“I’ll tell you what,” he said after a moment, something flickering in his eyes that had my stomach twisting in knots. “If you want to know, I’ll tell you, but you have to prove your loyalty first.”
