Looked like our time was up.

Samara flashed me a knowing smile and slid off the bed. “Tell him we’ll meet him at the car. I just need five minutes to clean up and get dressed.” She grabbed her clothes and then made way for the door, stopping long enough to stare back at me. “You know, it's a shame Rhett or Phantom didn’t tag along. They could’ve joined us.”

“You think you’re ready for that?” I asked, raising my brows at her.

Her cheeks flushed as she nodded.

“Maybe next time,” I told her.

“Yeah,” she smiled, her cheeks pinking at the thought. “Maybe next time.”

Finn was awake.

I almost couldn’t believe it.

And Sky… Damnit, I was not expecting her to show up out of the blue like that. After what she did, trying to kill herself… I didn’t think she was coming back. I’d deal with it and her later though, when I got back. There were more important things on my mind.

FINN. WAS. AWAKE.

My body fretfully shook as I hopped out Rhett’s SUV and planted my feet on the ground, swallowing hard as I stared up at the old clinic.

“You good?” Rhett asked as he walked over to me, his arm winding around my waist, pulling me close.

“Yeah, I’m good.” It was partially a lie. I was over the moon ecstatic to see Finn again but at the same time, I was nervous, fucking terrified to walk through the door. We had no idea what was waiting for us on the other side—if Finn was, well, Finn or not. What if he doesn’t remember anything? What if he doesn’trecognize us or worse, forgotten who he is? And Ginger…Fuck.Tears instantly sprung to my eyes. I wasn’t sure if I could do this.

“It’s gonna be okay.” The promise in his voice made me shake my head. “I—”

“Don’t do that. You told me you don’t make promises you can’t keep, so don’t. For all we know, the Finn we knew could be gone.”

“There’s only one way to find out.” Rhett stepped aside and nudged his head towards the door. Isaac and Phantom were already there, waiting for us. “Shall we?”

I took in a breath, hesitating before finally one foot began moving in front of the other, guiding me closer. Isaac walked in first and held the door open for me like a sweet gentleman, which was gravely unusual because being sweet and doing gentlemen-like things wasn’t exactly in his nature. Aside from sex, I assumed Griffin’s awakening played a huge part in Isaac’s mood, so I didn’t question it. It was nice seeing him, all of them, in much brighter spirits. I was too now that my dickless streak had finally come to an end.

Rhett was the last to enter, and as the four of us piled in together as a group, taking in Finn sitting up in bed and Xavier standing next to him, Finn’s face broke out in a relieved smile. The guys let me approach him first. It was all I could do not to sob when I wrapped my arms around him.

I pulled away to get a better look at him, unable to stop the tears spilling out and racing down my cheeks. He looked like complete shit, but he did look better. A lot better than the last time I’d seen him. The damage and bruising on his scarred face had finally subsided enough for him to fully open his eyes and see us clearly. He’d lost a fuck ton of weight and muscle mass, and there was some type of white cloth—medical bandages, maybe—wrapped around his head in a sideways turban.

“You-you’re okay…”

“I feel like I got run over a hundred times by a semi, and my head feels like it was used for batting practice.” Finn chuckled softly, his shoulders lifting slightly as he coughed, hissing out in pain. “But yeah, I’m alive.”

Xavier veered back as the others approached Finn. Despite not wanting to be close to him, I followed the same example and stepped back a bit so Rhett, Isaac, and Phantom could take turns hugging Finn.

“You had us scared there, Cuz,” Rhett told him. “I’m glad you’re okay.”

“What happened to you?” asked Phantom.

“Yeah, man,” inserted Isaac. “Do you remember anything?”

“A little. I haven’t quite been able to piece everything together yet.”

“He has a mild case of amnesia,” Xavier stated, confirming my fears. “Only his short term memory has been affected. He remembers everything until the final hours leading up to his attack.”

“Will he get them back?” I was the first to ask. “His memories?”
