“I hear you’re looking for Phantom,” I said when I was standing in front of her.

Sky wasn’t jesting. This was bad. This poor girl was skinner than a fucking cutting board and had visible fingertip bruises peppered along her neckline. Dirt, twigs, and leaves clung to her auburn hair like it was their life vest, and her arms were covered with cuts. Her clothes were torn in some places and covered in dirt. There was also a large gash at the top of her head with blood still trickling from the wound.

Jesus Christ…

What the hell happened to this girl?

“Ye-yes,” she nodded. “Can you help me?”

“Depends. How do you know Phantom?”

“I-Uh, don’t know him exactly. I’ve never met him. But-but my boyfriend. Well, one of my boyfriends, Kaden is friends with him.”

Kaden… Why does that name sound so familiar?

Oh, shit.

Kaden.

I took a step back and looked at her, reallylooked at her, and gasped, my eyes widening. “Holy. Fucking. Shit. You…you’re Rebel...”

“Yes,” she said with tears in her eyes, nodding again. “I’m Rebel. Please, please, help me.”

I was at a loss for words. This was Rebel Saturn Lamour, the eighteen year old who was supposed to have died in a gnarly car crash after being abducted from her home. Ever since I’d learned about those three teenagers vanishing in Damien’s territory a while back, I’d started paying better attention to the news channels. Rebel lived in a place called Clover Bay and if I remember correctly, it was about a two-hour drive from here. Phantom told me he had a friend named Kaden and how he’d been feeling guilty lately because he wasn’t able to help him save his girlfriend, but he’d never mentioned the girl’s name or their connection to Clover Bay. I couldn’t believe this was happening right now.

This was fucking insane.

Of course I’d help her. Rebel had a family. Everyone she’s ever loved and cared about believed she was dead.

Not if I could help it though.

No,fuck that.

It was time to make some calls and bring Rebel home.

“Hold on. I need to make a phone call.”

I fished my phone out of my back pocket and tapped a few buttons before bringing the device to my ear. I turned my back to Rebel and had to use my other hand to plug a finger in my ear so I could hear over the music.

“Hey,” I shouted when Isaac answered. “I’m over here by the tree stumps. Stop whatever the fuck you’re doing and get over here. It’s urgent.”

I shoved my phone in my pocket and turned back to face Rebel. “I’m Samara. Rhett and Isaac are on their way right now. Just hang on, okay? We’re gonna take you to Phantom.”

She tried to stand, and fast as I could, I grabbed onto her when she stumbled, catching her.

“Rebel, I think you need to sit…oh, fuck!”

Her eyes rolled back, and when I caught her, wrapping my hands around her waist, I went down, crashing into the dirt with her dead weight sprawled on top of me. I called out her name, shaking her desperately. No matter what I did, nothing worked.

She was out cold.

“Ihave something that belongs to you,” I spoke into the phone.

“What are you talking about?” Kaden asked, sounding utterly confused.
