I sighed and scraped a tired hand down my face. “Are you near your computer?”

“I’m right next to it, why?”

I hung up, then dropped the phone down on my computer desk, turning to my mainframe. A few clicks and taps later and I was requesting to video chat him, angling the camera just right so he’d have a perfect view of Rebel lying in my bed. She was still unconscious, hadn’t so much as stirred even while Samara, Rhett, and Isaac were busy playing doctor and tending to her wounds. One of her feet was wrapped up in gauze, propped up with the support of three pillows. There was a large bandage on the top of her head and smaller butterfly bandages scattered up and down her arms. She was thin too—God was she thin—like she’d been starved off and on for weeks now. Lord knows I hoped she killed the motherfucker that did this to her.

Finally, Kaden answered, and just like that his whole crew came into view, plus another older guy I wasn’t familiar with.

Rebel’s name fled Wesley’s mouth in a frantic wail and in a flash, he literally catapulted Kaden out of his computer chair, claiming the spot as his own.

Kaden sneered and called him a dickhead, but Wesley ignored it. All he could do was stare at Rebel with tears pouring out his eyes.

“Rebel,” he said again, his voice shaking. “It-it’s me, Wesley! I’m here, baby… Open your eyes for me. Fucking please, baby, I need you to open your eyes!”

“Rebel,” Lucian muttered barely above a whisper. “She-she looks…fuck!” He tugged at his dirty-blond locks, his own tears coating his cheeks. “I… I don’t think I can do this.”

“Come on.” The guy I didn’t know approached Lucian from behind and firmly grasped his shoulders, pulling him away. “Let them handle this while you and I go outside and talk one on one. The plan has changed now so we best call your father while we still can. It’s okay, Lucian. She’s fine now. She’s safe.”

“She’s been here about an hour now.” I shifted the frame back on me when Kaden moved to stand beside Wesley. Getting up, I moved over to Isaac’s bed and sat down at the end, their view of Rebel mostly gone now. “And don’t bother doing all that yelling trying to wake her up. It won’t work. We’ve already tried. She’s out cold. She’s-uh…” I paused, sighing as I gnawed angrily on my snakebites. “She’s banged up pretty bad.”

“What happened?” Kaden asked at the same time Cody demanded to know the same thing, just in a more profane attitude.

“I don’t really know,” I said honestly. “She was already passed out when Rhett, Isaac, and Samara brought her up to my room.”

“Samara?” Cody jeered through clenched teeth. “Who the fuck is Samara?”

“She’s none of your goddamn business,” I snapped back, my dark eyes narrowing. “All you need to know is that Rebel is here. Rhett found a car with a blown tire outside the gate, so we’re assuming that’s how she got here. He found a phone too, but it’s dead. He also found a wallet with two different IDs in it. Tanner Knox and Benjamin Townsend. The trunk was full of Rebel’s clothes and there was a bunch of food in the car. I have some of it stowed away in the fridge so she’ll have something to eat in case she wakes up.”

“Yo, bro,” Isaac shouted, his footsteps all but stomping down the hall like a fucking elephant. “This cheesecake is on fucking point!”

I rolled my eyes when Isaac stepped into the room. “That is if this jackass doesn’t devour all of it by then.”

Isaac moved inside the frame and stood directly behind me, stuffing a giant fork full of cheesecake in his mouth.

“Are you guys coming to pick her ass up or what?” he grumbled as he chewed. “Rhett’s changing out that tire now, but your girl has no ID and given her condition, there’s no telling when she’ll wake up. And we aren’t exactly in a position where we can bring her to you either.”

“I’ll go,” Wesley immediately volunteered, springing to his full height as he gaped between Cody and Kaden. “I’ll bring her home.”

“I’m coming with you,” Cody demanded. “I—"

“We need to discuss things over with Lucian and Drax first,” Kaden interjected, which had Cody and Wesley shooting him icy glares. “You heard what Drax said. The plan has changed. Somehow Rebel managed to escape and even though she’s safe for now, we still have Devlin to worry about. We don’t knowwhat the deal is with that bug so let’s take care of that first and then we can decide who gets to bring her home.”

I shared a look with Isaac, internally and remorsefully scoffing as I lightly shook my head. Jesus fucking Christ. It sounded—and given that their girlfriend was currently passed out in my bed—like they were buried neck deep in a heap of bullshit too.

Cody and Wesley looked long and hard at each other. Clearly, they weren’t happy.

“Ah, hell,” Cody whined when Wesley broke and offered him an apologetic frown. “I already know what you’re going to say, so don’t even bother. Let’s just get this shit over with so we can hit the road.”

“Thanks, Phantom,” Kaden said, giving me a grateful look through the laptop. “You have no idea how much I…we, appreciate this. I’ll call you as soon as we’re on the way.”

“This is gonna be one long fucking night,” Isaac groused when the call ended. He sighed as he sat down next to me on the bed, his eyes locked on the sleeping beauty across from us. He released a dismissive scoff of his own and then pulled out his phone, checking his messages.

“Has Rhett left yet?”

I felt it when he nodded. “Yeah.” Isaac nudged my shoulder and showed me the display. Prim had just picked up the car, so now Rhett was off to meet Father.

“And Samara?” I asked, my breath catching when my pulse sped up. Suddenly I was feeling nervous about this whole damn thing.

“With Sky, back at their dorm. I’ll let her know Rebel’s guys are coming to get her.”
