I stand up and hold out my hands to her. “Come on, babe. I’m going to figure this out for you, but I need you to come with me now. Okay?”

I see the shock clear from her eyes, and she slowly comes back to me. Finally, she nods. “Okay, I’ll come with you.”

“Okay, good, good. Let’s go slowly.”

I help her up and put the note card in my back pocket. As she stands, I notice that she’s wearing high heels again, and I don’t like it or understand it. Not only do they hurt her feet, they aren’t safe to walk in at this stage in her pregnancy. I reach down and gently take them off her feet. I’d rather her walk down the stairs barefoot than wear those things.

We make our way slowly to my car. I’m lucky the damn thing didn’t get stolen since I left it running with the door wide open.

“I’m taking you to my place. You’re staying there until we can figure this out.”

She just nods, still in a state of shock.

I make sure she’s buckled in, and then I take off. I’m mentally cataloging all of the phone calls I need to make once I get home. Whoever this fucker is messing with her, he has no idea what he’s started.

Nobody messes with Liz like this.

The ride to my condo is short and completely silent. I don’t want to push Liz to speak while she is so distraught. And I don’t trust myself to speak when I’m filled with such internal rage. I need to get myself under control so I don’t further upset her.

Pulling up to my building, I feel the vise surrounding my chest ease up a bit. At least she and the baby are safe at my place. Though now I kinda find myself wishing I had bought a condo in Jake or Dax’s building. Their penthouses are more secure than the freaking White House. Thankfully, I have a doorman and security cameras throughout my building, and I can also beef up the security in my condo.

I give my car fob to the waiting valet and put my arm around Liz’s waist. I carefully guide her into my building. The number one goal is to get her safe and comfortable.

Liz doesn’t speak until we reach the door to my condo. “Thank you for coming to get me. I know that was an extreme reaction, and I’m embarrassed that I acted like that.” Her head is downcast, and her voice is low and uncertain, so unlike the strong woman I know.

“You shouldn’t be embarrassed by anything. Your reaction was completely normal. Let’s get inside, and we can talk about the next steps.”

She doesn’t say anything as we walk in, and I lead her to the couch. I’m concerned by how quiet and docile she is.

Jake and Lana are about to head out of town, so I don’t want to disturb them. Instead, I pick up my phone and text Dax. Knowing Dax, he probably has contact with the type of people I’m going to need.

There’s a situation with Liz. Can you meet me at my place asap?

Dax

That’s cryptic as hell. What’s going on?

Don’t want to get into it right now. I think she’s being stalked. I’m moving her into my place.

Be right over.

Now, I just need to contact Jessica. Liz is going to need a friend.

Can you come over to my place? Liz is here. I could use some help with a situation she is in.

Jessica

Yep, send me your address. Be there in thirty.

After sending Jessica my address, I hunch down in front of Liz. Needing her to focus on me, I take her hands into mine.

“Dax and Jessica are on their way over. We’re going to put together a plan.”

She nods. “Okay. That sounds good.”

“I also want to talk about you moving in here. I don’t think you should go back to your place right now.”

She jerks her hands away. “I can’t move in here with you.”
