This happy feeling filling me up is because, for the first time, Olivia and I cleared the air between us. And all of yesterday evening, things felt so different. When we held hands by the fire, it was for show, but it felt so good. Her skin’s silky soft. I loved the feel of her hand in mine.

And now she’s right here at my feet, hugging Blue.

I keep thinking about what she said yesterday.

About how when we kissed, it felt like something we did all the time. In the morning, first thing…

She stands up, and instead of walking back toward her bed like I expect, she remains right in front of me.

“Good morning,” she whispers, that cute blush tinting her cheeks.

“Mornin’”

“I was promised something dangerous if I came this close.”

“You want dangerous?”

“Actually, I’d rather have something sweet.” Her eyes dance, inviting me in.

It’s an incredible invitation. She wrinkles her nose as she steps in closer.

“So, you’re not calling me Sugar this morning?” she asks. “We have an act to keep up, remember.”

“Right. It’s gotta sound natural.”

“Practice makes perfect. Give it a shot.”

“Good morning, Sugar.”

“Hm. I think I like it.” She taps her lip, like she’s thinking.

Now I can’t stop looking at her plump lips.

“I think I like this practice thing.”.”

“It never hurts to do some run-throughs behind the scenes,” she says, still with that inviting sparkle in her eye. I wrack my brain for a witty response. But when she inches in closer to me, I forget all about our joking.

There’s no air left between us.

This day is even better now that I can wrap my arms around her, and I didn’t know that was possible.

I lower my lips down to hers and kiss her. Her hands slip around my waist, and she pulls me closer. Her body feels so warm and good in my arms. Her kiss makes me feel like I’m the luckiest man in the world.

When we part, she peers into my eyes. “Not bad… Maybe our first try wasn’t a fluke at all. And practicing with you sure is a nice way to start the day.”

“Back at home, all that gets me out of bed is the thought of coffee and a breakfast sandwich from Market Street. This sure beats all that.” She giggles and shakes her head.

“Oh, boy. So, I’m better than a seven-dollar breakfast.”

I grin. “Nine, with the tip.”

“It’s good to know I win over bacon.”

“I like my sandwiches with sausage.”

“So, I win over a sausage patty, then. Whew! What a relief.”

“And eggs, cheese, buttery English muffin…”
