My favorite, she thought.

Aunt Lily had felt so bad for keeping secrets from her, but Adria had realized it was for the best. She at least had a happy childhood without this dark cloud hanging over her head. The story she had been told had still been a hard one to come to terms with, but she was thankful she wasn’t known as the hunter's daughter.

As loving as her pack community could be she didn’t think a lot of people could be accepting and understanding of something like that. And she wouldn’t have blamed them. To be the daughter of the worst enemy, a pack could ever have, her life would have been a lot different and not in a good way. When she dressed and went downstairs, the first thing she did was hug her aunt as tightly as she could.

“What’s that for?” Her aunt laughed a little as a concerned look crossed her face. Adria was still trying to shake off the nightmare, but she knew her aunt saw she was still rattled. “Are you okay, Adria? You look, well, a little off.”

“I had a bad dream, but it’s okay. It doesn’t mean anything,” she tried to convince herself.

“Oh? Do you want to talk about it?” her aunt asked.

“Not really. I just want to forget about it. I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate everything you did for me. It couldn’t have been easy for you,” Adria said with a smile. Her aunt's eyes started getting misty as she turned to the stove to flip the toast.

“You’re family, my dear; there isn’t anything we wouldn’t do for family. Children, especially, are so innocent; no child in the world chooses what kind of life they are born into or who their parents are. We can’t fault them for that. That isn’t fair. You were so young and so innocent; you deserved a good life.” She turned and smiled back at her.

Adria could see the love in her aunt’s eyes. She had no idea what she would have done without Aunt Lily, where she would be, if she would even be alive. Adria knew she owed her aunt a lot and did it not expecting anything in return. Aunt Lily deserved all her love and respect.

They sat and enjoyed a nice, normal breakfast together before they heard a knock at the door. Adria knew it was Spencer as her aunt went to answer it. She cleared the table as he madehis way into the kitchen. She saw the mixed emotions on his face. He also looked drained. Being thrown into such a situation was taking its toll on him.

“Well, you seem to have things under control here, Adria, and I’m sure you both have some talking to do. So I’m going to go see if I’m needed at the town hall for something.” Aunt Lily smiled as she made her less-than-graceful exit.

“Hi,” Adria said, trying to be cheery as she filled up the dishwasher.

“You know why I’m here, right?” he asked hesitantly.

“Yes, and I want you to know I haven’t changed my mind. I’m staying, and that is that,” she said in a way that should have told him she thought her decision was a matter of fact.

“No, that is not that, Adria. You know that it’s not a good idea for you to stay. You know that. Why are you being this way?” he pleaded; she could see him getting irritated as she wiped down the table.

“I’m not being any way but how I should be. This is my home, and I need to stand with my family, my friends, my pack.” She wasn’t going to let up, and she hoped he knew it. It was hard to see him as the Alpha. The pack members weren't supposed to oppose him, but she still saw him as the friend she grew up with. She shared secrets, scraped knees, and nerves at formal dances with him.

“Adria, please, listen to reason. This is not a good idea,” he tried to tell her.

“ Why isn’t it? Tell me exactly what you think,” she said, folding her arms as she leaned back on the counter. Now, she was the one getting irritated.

“Because you are in too much danger here,” he replied. Adria laughed, causing him to look at her with confusion.

“That’s far from the reason. You think that I'm going to be weak when I see my father. That I'm going to have some hope that I can reason with him, change him, and that I’m going to end up like my mother,” she stated, knowing that was exactly what he was thinking.

“No, well yes…well maybe. I don’t know! Listen, as your Alpha, I am ordering you to go back to wherever you were and sit tight until I call you home,” he tried to be commanding. Adria laughed again.

“Nice try, but not happening,” she told him. He glared at her as he turned to leave.

“It is,” was all he said as he walked out the door.

Adria was shocked. Was he trying to pull the Alpha card?

Did he think that would hold water with her? And where in the hell was he going!? Did he honestly think it was done just because he walked away? That his word was law to her, and she was just supposed to bow down?

Adria rushed to the door and down the porch steps just in time to see him get into his car. She threw up her hands, as he drove away.Did he think this was done?Adria's temper flared as she jumped into her car and followed him to his house. As they both pulled into the driveway, Adria thought of a million things she wanted to say to him. She didn’t care if he was the Alpha or not. They had too much history for him to dismiss her like that.

“Adria, I’m not in the mood,” he told her, as she followed him into his house and up the stairs.

“I don’t care! I am. If you think for a second that I’m just going to bow down and do what you please, you have another thing coming,” she yelled. She was livid, and he was going to know it. She followed him down the hallway and only stopped when he whirled around.

“No, you have another thing coming!” he bellowed.

“Yeah? What's that?” she demanded, bracing herself for a yelling match that would have the whole town hearing them. She was ready for that, but not for what he did.
