“I’m sorry,” she cries. She won’t stop crying. “You slept with Miles and you got caught, Aurora, and I’m sorry I told, but you cheated on him.”

“No, she didn’t,” Miles snaps.

“She really didn’t,” Knox repeats. “I’m not going to tell you how I discovered that. Because that’s between us. But just know that no Titan will ever step foot in your bar again. And no Titan fan will either.”

In this city, that’s practically a death sentence.

My former friend crumples.

I stand. “Lose my number. Forget I exist.”

It isn’t until we’re out of the locker room, leaving her there alone, that my throat closes. My eyes burn.

Knox hugs me to his side. “Hard part’s over, sunshine.”

Not really. Because we still have the Luke Abernathy problem. He hasn’t reached out in a while, but after his latest move with my money, it feels like only a matter of time. And I can’t deal with this on top of everything else. I’m emotionally strung out. It’s all I can do to keep myself together long enough to make it home.

He’s a guillotine hanging over our heads, and I have the worst feeling that the blade is about to drop.

KNOX

While Aurora was leading Beth to the arena to beat the shit out of her, the guys and I were scheming.

There’s a very limited window of time when none of us have games. We’ve got forty-eight hours before Greyson and Steele have to be back to their respective teams, and another twenty-four until Miles will return to his.

Luke Abernathy has to go.

Jacob has been tasked with following the motherfucker, which is why he didn’t join us for the fiasco at the rink. Although it was a hot fiasco. One I will be replaying in my mind over and over and over?—

“Focus,” Miles snaps, elbowing me in the gut.

“Right.” I swallow, my chest tightening at the thought of something happening to Aurora. The whole reason we’ve been scheming is to try and protect her.

She willnotbe attacked again.

Part of our scheming involved upgrading the security in our building. It wasn’t a particularly easy task, but Jacob and I pooled our sway with the building manager. If it helps keep strangers from getting access to the elevators, to our units, then I’m all for it.

“Okay. No, it’s okay.” I nod to myself. I just need to swing back to optimistic Knox. The one who will do anything for a laugh… except that feels hollow right now, too.

“It’s not really okay,” Aurora mutters beside me.

We leave the arena as a pack, all together. With her at the center, protected like she should be. She’s sandwiched between Steele and me, with Miles taking up the front and Greyson behind us.

“Hey!”

I pause. Turn.

Camden Church comes jogging toward us from across the parking lot. He stops in front of me, silently regarding my friends, then Aurora. She still seems a little upset, if we’re being honest. And then me.

“What’s up?” I ask.

He narrows his eyes. “I was going to use the Titans’ facility to work out. But now I’m curious whatyouwere doing.”

“Aurora rented the ice for an hour. We were collecting her.”

“Uh-huh. You’re a motley crew, aren’t you?”
