She drums her fingers on my chest. When she twists to face him, she makes sure to grind her ass against my groin. She smiles at Church. I put my hand on her hip and squeeze. A warning, maybe?

My brain is still playing catch-up.

“It was our little secret,” Aurora says in a fake whisper. “Knox is shy in that regard, although I bet you wouldn’t know anything about that, right?”

“And Joel…?”

She sighs. Her whole face goescrestfallen.

I grip her hand and inspect the ring. She doesn’t move as I twist it on her ring finger. But sure enough, I recognize it.

Why she kept it, though…

“She was trying to make me jealous,” I find myself explaining to my teammates. The ones paying attention anyway. “And it worked.”

She meets my gaze and smiles slightly.

Aurora McGovernsmilingat me? Even though it’s the barest hint of one, just a tic of the corners of her lips upward, I’ll take it. I mean, I shouldn’t want to take it. I should want to destroy her. And I’d think she would want to destroy me, too, now that she’s showing up here without a fiancé.

But there will be time for mutual destruction later.

Right now, I just want to kiss her. And maybe push her limits, see how far she’ll take this ruse. So I do, not caring that her lipstick is going to be all over my face in a matter of seconds. Not caring that we have an audience.

Actually, maybe boosted by that.

She leans into the kiss, relaxing against me. The rest of the room fades out, until it’s just the feel of her lips on mine. I nip her, then coax my tongue into her mouth. She smells like lilacs but tastes like strawberries and tequila. I groan into her mouth, sliding my hand up her arm, to the back of her neck. Then into her hair, where I grip and pull and change the angle.

And she lets me.

Her nails dig into my arms, then my neck. Then my hair, tugging as sharply as I tug on hers. She shifts her dress up and swings her leg over, straddling me, never once breaking the kiss. The fucking glorious, epic kiss.

Until she breaks it off and whispers, “I told him just like you wanted.”

“So?” I mumble, my word making our lips brush again. There’s a haze of lust surrounding both of us. I’ve never been so turned on in my life, and from the look on her face… neither has she.

Interesting.

“So… the divorce papers are waiting,” she says.

Ah.

“That’s what this is about?” I pull her hair, tipping her head back. “You come here, tell my teammates we’re married, then try to strong-arm me into a divorce?”

“I’m just waiting for you to follow through.” Her eyes narrow. “Unless you always planned on going back on your word.”

I laugh. I’m hard as a rock andarguingwith her. Thank God she’s straddling me, hiding my boner from the others sitting around us. Although we seem to be in our own little bubble.

“I’ll follow through, all right,” I murmur. “Wife, meet husband. It’s foolish that we live in two different condos in the same building.”

“Knox—”

“We’ll compare, see who has the better one.” It seems logical. “Although I’ve already seen yours. And, sunshine, I hate to tell you this…” I lean in. “But mine’s bigger.”

She rolls her eyes and ignores the innuendo. “I’m not moving in with you.”

“Fine, I’ll take the downgrade.” I think on that, then shake my head. “Never mind. But right now, you need to skedaddle.” I push her up, setting her on her feet, and rotate her away. My palm strikes her ass, making her jump. “Bye,babe.”

“Skedaddle?” She glares at me over her shoulder. But then she smiles. And when she sashays away, it isn’t to the door.
