It’s to the bar.

“Dude.” Jacob scowls at me. “What the hell?”

I shrug, wiping at my lip. There’s lipstick there, sure enough. I stick my thumb in my mouth, tasting it. Imagining I’m tasting her again.

“Seems like my plan backfired.”

And by that, I mean it seems Aurora’s declaration scared away all the puck bunnies. Well, the ones who were interested in me. There are still some girls hanging around Lawson and Scofield.

Jacob seems ready to leave. Melody isn’t with him, which was upsetting when he showed up without her. But he mentioned that she’s been painting more at night. Then he said he wanted to fuck her against a canvas, and I tuned him out.

Sort of.

I mean, if he fucks her with paint everywhere, I think people might pay a lot of money for that shit. I would. Maybe not of them. They’re my best friends. But… well, if Aurora covered herself in paint and rolled around on a canvas, I’d buy it just so no one else could get the impression of her tits or ass.

Ugh. I need to stop thinking about Aurora.

She’s talking to someone at the bar. A guy.

And we’re right back in the game.

“Hey—”

I ignore Jacob and stomp across the bar. Beth is there, too. She looks from Aurora to me, her eyes narrowing. I don’t give a shit about her, just the asshole trying to talk to my girl.

Shit.

She’s not my girl.

But she’s notnotmy girl. She actually is mine. I changed my mind.

I married her, I get to keep her. I called dibs. That’s basically what marriage is, after all.

“Walk away,” I advise the man as soon as I’m up close. He’s an ugly fucker. I’d assume he has some boring job in finance, maybe insurance. Nothing suited for Aurora.

He takes one look at me and scrams.

“Come with me.” I hook my arm around Aurora’s waist and practically drag her off the stool.

She stumbles into me, making some noise of protest, but she doesn’t have much of a choice.

She ruined my buzz.

Outside. Back to the alley I first threatened… well, questionedher. I push her against the wall and stare at her a beat, then attack her mouth again.

I don’t want to kiss her, but I’m pretty sure I’ll stop breathing if I’m not inhaling her scent. If I’m not tasting her.

She arches into me. I grab at her waist, her hips. I squeeze her ass and lift her, and her dress rides up as she wraps her legs around me. She bites my lip hard enough to draw blood, and I tear my mouth away. I track bloody kisses down her jaw and neck, nipping until she’s shifting against me.

“This is so wrong,” she murmurs. “I don’t want you.”

“Yeah, right,” I growl. “So hate fuck me, sunshine.”

She stills. “I’m not going to fuck you, Knox.”

“And I’m not going to fuck you either. It’s a fucking saying.”

“No, really.” She shoves at my shoulder. “Not here. Not in a luxury bed. Not if you were the last guy on earth.”
