Chapter eleven

Alexandra

I have no other choice.

I have no other choice.

I have no other choice,

I repeated the words to myself as I packed the select few belongings I had taken from my suitcase to fit the new clothing I’d received. I knew I needed to leave as soon as I could.

The number that had messaged me when we were on the island had not stopped since.

I AM COMING TO GET YOU.

It said the same thing every time, and I knew he would. He had looked for me for too long and would only come back angrier. The thought sent shivers down my spine, but I continued packing, wiping the tears from my face. Sebastian dropped me back at the hotel two hours ago, and I knew it was the last time I would see him.

I have not known him long, but my heart aches. It hurts so much.

Sebastian had a pull on me that no one ever had. He had taken my heart. I could no longer deny that I had fallen in love with him completely. Leaving him pains me beyond comprehension.

“I need to leave as quietly as I can,” I whispered to the empty room, my head thinking straight. I couldn't check out because he would know; he owned the hotel. I needed to sneak out through the lobby without being seen by the staff. If I had to say goodbye to him face to face, I don’t think I could leave.

The waiting bags stared at me and I quickly gathered them, looking one last time at the room, a memory of Sebastian’s smiling face lying on the bed. I sighed and stepped out, allowing the door to close behind me. I turned the corner to the elevator and froze as a very familiar pair of golden eyes stared back at me.

“Sebastian,” I whispered, shocked to see him. What is he doing here?

“Where are you going, Alexandra?” he asked, his tone neutral but his eyes rimmed with worry.

I gulped down the tension in my throat, noticing Sebastian’s gaze drop to the bags behind me. I know I can’t lie to him about this. There was no point.

“What are YOU doing here, Sebastian?” I asked.

“I had the feeling you were going to try to run away.”

“What?” I was shocked. How would he know that?

“Come inside with me, Alexandra. Will you?” he asked, walking toward my closed door. It was the least I could do. My decision to leave wouldn’t change, but I had to listen to what he had to say. I couldn’t just leave him hanging.

“I have to go, Sebastian,” I whispered through tears.

“Why?” he asked, holding my hands. I looked into his eyes and saw the concern. He was just as pained with my leaving as I was. “You don’t have to go. Just tell me what you are running from, and I’ll fix it.”

“I just… I just need to leave, Sebastian. I can’t explain it. I have to go,” I whispered. Parting from him caused me physical pain.

“Talk to me,” he whispered again.

“Let’s go inside,” I said, leading the way back to the room. I opened the door, and we stepped inside.

As I stared at him, I could sense he was not okay. My heart was telling me that Sebastian needed me. His disheveled hair andtroubled expression were direct indications that something was bothering him, and it couldn’t just be me leaving because he didn’t know I was going to.

“I heard your phone call back on the island.”Oh shit.He had known, and he was here now for what? To stop me?

“Sebastian, you could’ve just asked,” I said, walking toward him as he sat on the bed. If there was a way to stay with him forever, I would. I knew he would protect me, but I cannot ask that of him. I can’t ask him to solve my problems.

“I can’t let you go, Alexandra.”

“I have to. I am sorry,” I replied, determination ringing in my voice. He couldn’t persuade me, and he needed to know that.
