I needed to hold my own with him, or he would walk all over me, and I didn’t want to be that type of woman. Somehow, I didn’t think that deep down he would wish me to be either.

Whoever Ash was, I felt that he would need a strong woman to stand at his side. As I thought back to the words he had said about me fighting beside him, I knew that to be the truth. Besides, I might still be a bit shy and awkward, but I was done allowing it to make me weak. I had found my strength the night before, and I was determined not to lose it.

“I can take care of myself. Last night and even this morning should have proved that,” I replied. I was glad to hear my voice come out steady and strong, even though my knees felt weak at our closeness.

“You’re amazing, Gracie. Don’t think I don’t know that. You did great last night and this morning, but you don’t know my world like I do. You don’t know the danger you could be in,” he stated.

I processed his words. His world?Hmm, I wondered what exactly that meant but couldn’t ponder it further as he continued.

“You’re my responsibility now. Nobody else will protect you except for me. From now on, that’s my job.”

He was staring into my eyes so intently. My heart raced, and my breath was shallow as I gazed back at him. Was it wrong that I was thrilled by that? I wanted him to protect me. I wanted whatever it was he was offering. Oh, I had it bad! I gulped loudly, and he smirked, knowing he was affecting me in exactly the way he wanted to and pleased with the fact.

“Say the words, sweetheart,” he mumbled, nibbling my ear.

His Russian accent was more pronounced again, and it sent waves of pleasure straight to my core. I felt my panties getting wet and I blushed. Oh, my holy hell! What this man could do to me with just his voice, eyes, or kiss was unbelievable. I couldn’t begin to imagine what he could do to me if things went any further than that.

He looked up at me expectantly. I bit my lips, undecisive. I wanted to get to know the man in front of me, and I definitely hoped to have an intimate relationship with him. But was going home with him now the right thing to do? I really wasn’t sure. I knew I felt safe with him, but was I really?

I sighed and nibbled on my lip again.

“You can trust me, Gracie,” he said in earnest, and I saw the truth in his eyes. They were beautiful eyes. I could easily get lost in them. His hand cupped my cheek. I leaned into it, unable to stop myself. My core clenched when his lips brushed lightly over mine as he repeated the words he wanted me to say.

“Tell me you are mine to protect and keep safe, sweetheart.”

I whimpered. Actually whimpered. Oh no! I could have cringed. My embarrassment quickly turned to passion, however, as he brushed light kisses all over my face and neck. His hands ran all over me. Shivers of electricity lit up my veins at his touch. He sucked on the sensitive part of my neck near my collarbone, and I moaned in pleasure.

“Say the words, sweetheart; I need to hear them from you,” he demanded.

He wanted me to talk?He had to be kidding. I couldn’t even think straight, let alone form a coherent sentence. I didn’t want to talk. Talking wasn’t important. Kissing was. I pulled his head down and tried to press his lips back on mine.

He pulled away again.

“You want me to kiss you, Gracie?” he asked.

I nodded and leaned towards him again, but he stopped me.

“Then you need to say what I want to hear,” he replied, his lips close to mine but held just out of reach.

I pouted and tried for his lips again, but he held me off.

“Tell me, sweetheart!” he demanded again.

Damn that man! He was manipulating me and I knew it, but all I could think of at that moment was getting his lips back on mine. How he managed to make me want him so badly, I didn’t know, but in that second, I realised that I would say the words. I would agree to go home with him. In fact, I would likely agree to anything he wanted just so he would keep kissing me. I was so lost in him.

“I’m yours to protect and keep safe!Say it, sweetheart, and I will,” he murmured insistently.

And so, I did.

“I’m yours to protect and keep safe,” I said in a rush, making him grin widely

“Good girl!” he said, rewarding me by kissing me deeply. We kissed for what felt like hours, but it was likely only a minute or two. Finally, he pulled away again, leaving us both panting hard.

We stared at each other with huge grins on our faces as we tried to catch our breath.

Whatever was happening between us affected us both in the same way. I couldn’t help the feeling of happiness that bubbled inside me at that thought.

“You’re mine, Gracie. Now go pack quickly,” he said, turning me towards my wardrobe and patting me on the ass before leaving the room.
