“Nope! We have a meeting,” she says, rolling off the bed. I watch her strut to my closet, where she keeps some of her clothes.

“No fair,” I grumble. Getting up much slower than her. “The meeting is just with the band. They can wait.”

“You just had the stitches in your chin and cheek removed. You’re not doing anything with your mouth until I’m sure you won’t rip anything open.”

“Don’t come at me with your logic! I want your taste on my tongue. Just ride my face,” I argue. Belle just laughs and continues to get ready.

“The meeting was your idea, so you better get dressed.”

“Fine, but I’m keeping a tally and paying you back when my face is better.”

“You say that like it’s a threat,” she calls from the bathroom.

I grumble and complain to myself as I get dressed. Whoever hit me is really going to pay. Not only have they caused me a lot of pain, but now I can’t even eat out my girlfriend. Fucking asshole.

Cal and I just pitched the idea of moving to everyone. Belle was immediately in, and Willa followed shortly after. Maverick is the one teetering on the edge, just as I predicted.

“Is this because I said no to therapy? Moving seems like a really dramatic response to that.”

Cal rolls his eyes at Mav, who, luckily, can’t see him.

“Cal and I talked about this before the accident,” I tell him. “And honestly, I’m not so sure I want to be in a car thatlong all the time anymore.” Was that a cheap shot? Yes, but I’m willing to take all the cheap shots if it gets Maverick out of this town and out of his head.

“He’s telling the truth. We don’t have to live directly in Boston, but I think it would benefit us to be a lot closer,” Cal adds.

Maverick sighs and looks around. He knows he’s outvoted, but he also knows we won’t force him. “Alright. Let’s move.”

“This is so exciting!” Willa exclaims before pulling up real estate listings and looking them over with Belle.

My phone vibrates in my pocket, and I pull it out to see a text from Kelly Boswell, the PI looking into Ezra.

Kelly

I’m resigning from this case.

Me

What? Why? I can pay you more.

Kelly

Not worth the money.

Me

Did something happen?

Kelly

There are bigger players involved than you realize.

Me

Who? Did someone threaten you? Please give me something.

Kelly

Please don’t contact me again.
