“I can’t stop thinking of the night you kissed me,” she said.

“Youkissedme, Saber.”

“You kissed meback,” she breathed. “And I cut my tongue on your teeth.”

The memory of it made her shudder, and was having an effect on him, too. In the darkness, she saw him open his mouth and run his own tongue over his fangs, fangs that gleamed in the bright, full moonlight.

“I keep fantasizing,” she said, “about how it would feel to have your teeth inside of me, under my skin.”

There was a low, animal growl in the room. It couldn’t be Ansel, could it? It seemed to come from everywhere.

She knew she was getting a response, and the thought made her tingle with excitement.

“Have you ever felt like if someone didn’t touch you, you’d go crazy?”

And then he turned to her, faster than she ever could have imagined, and was on her.

How they moved from the window to the bed was forever a mystery to Saber, who felt only a powerful shock of strength. He didn’t hurt her, not really, but he lifted her from the ground so fast that one of her shoes fell off, and she could barely register what was happening until she was thrown against the bed.

He looked down at her and his usually neat hair had already begun to fall into his face. His eyes were bright, so horribly, beautifully bright, and his mouth was open in a way that reminded her of a snake, his white fangs long and exposed, not romantic now, but threatening, deadly. He was breathing hard, and looked down at her with a hungry ferocity, without a trace of affection or even recognition. He leaned over her and pulled down her dress, exposing her breasts, and ran his cool hands over them, then up to her neck, wrapping his fingers around her throat briefly, lingering on her pulse, making her heart beat even faster. His eyes flickered up to meet hers, enjoying her terror. He leaned down to kiss her, and she felt a surge of pleasure and need, a need that braided itself to the fear like two indistinguishable silk ribbons.

Then he pushed up her dress, and looked down at her again, like he was preparing to, what, bite her? She shuddered with hot anticipation.

Then he stopped, frozen.

“You did this,” he said, running a finger over the cut in her thigh. “You planned this.”

She looked up at him, then, at his ember-glow eyes and his terrifying teeth. He was angry, even livid, breathing raggedly as he looked down at her. She had never been more afraid than in that moment.

“This is what I want,” she said, but her voice sounded small and childish.

“You have no idea what you’ve done,” he growled.

Then he dragged her body, limp as a doll, to the edge of the bed, and, after tearing off his crisp, white button-down, knelt between her open legs. The glimpse she got of his naked chest sent a ricochet of heat through her. He must have been a very physically fit young man before he…

She couldn’t finish the thought.

He held her to the bed with one hand on her quivering belly. He then hooked his other arm around her leg so that his shoulder was beneath her thigh with his other hand holding her in place so that even if she’d wanted to, she could barely move.

He’d done this many, many times before. He was practiced and efficient.

His hair fell into his face, and he looked at her once with seething anger and something else.

Helplessness.

Her heart clenched.

What had she done?

Then he pressed his mouth to the place right below her hip bone and pushed his teeth in, puncturing her with an ugly snapping sound, flesh giving way.

“No,” she whimpered.

She had made a mistake.

She did not want to die for this man, no, thiscreature. She thought she knew what she wanted, but now, with his fangs buried in her body, she knew she was a fool who had spun a stupid crush into an obsession, and now she might die for it.

He drew from her with a shuddering groan, and she felt the sensation of falling she sometimes had on the edge of dreams. She could hear the sounds, wet, vile, animal like, that his mouth made against her flesh, and they delighted and disgusted her, those twin ribbons of fear and need tightening as they coiled around one another.
