Derek smiled and was instantly warmer toward her. In fact, it was like he’d lit up from the inside, like she could feel a simmering, sensual energy radiating off of him.

“Why did you come back here, Miss Warren?”

“I don’t know,” she said, and in that moment she wasn’t sure.

“Have you been with him? With our friend?” Derek asked, then, curiously. “Has he claimed you for his own?”

The word ‘claimed’ made Saber want to gag.

“Who are you talking about?”

“Who do youwishI was talking about?”

She thought of Ansel and blushed all the way to her neck.

“You do know who I’m talking about, don’t you?”

“No,” she lied.

“Who were you thinking of then, when you blushed. I saw thebloodrise to your face.”

“My dad’s boss. This guy I barely know.”

Why was she so forthcoming? It seemed as though he could draw words out of her as easily as if he was tugging on a string.

“Is he yourlover?”

Lover? What?!

“No,” she said, laughing a little.

“Because he hasrefusedyou.”

She looked at him, surprised.

How did he know that?

“What man would refuse a fresh, young, delicious thing like you?”

“A man who likes women his own age?”

Derek laughed again.

“I like older women too. Trust me, a ripe woman can be just as sexy as one who has only recently come into her womanhood. Both can be irresistible.”

“Barf,” Saber said, laughing.

He ignored her.

“What self-righteous presumption, to refuse the need of a young woman out of some strange sense of right and wrong.”

“It would have been wrong,” she said vaguely. “He was just being a good guy.”

Now Derek really laughed.

“I promise you, Miss Warren, he is not a good guy.”

“Oh,” Saber said, feeling more and more like she was losing focus.
