My father paled and stumbled back.

I pointed a finger at King Novakin. “The true villain here ishim, not me.”

“That’s enough. All of you.” The king’s chest heaved. “You are threatening to break the peace of our land, Norivun. This time, you’ve gone too far. You’ve left me with no choice but to execute my own son.”

Gasps sounded throughout the room.

My head dropped back in a sharp bark of laughter. “You couldn’t kill me if you tried.”

“Perhaps not, but what if I killed her?” In a flash, the king was next to my mate with a knife to her neck.

Ilara yelped in surprise just as the king drove a dagger right through her throat.

CHAPTER 25 - ILARA

Blood filled my throat, and then I was falling, crashing to the ground as screams rang through the air.

“Ilara!” Norivun’s arms enclosed me before I hit the floor. Blood gushed from my neck. His hands pressed against my throat, terror coating his eyes.

The king let out a harsh laugh as my blood spurted out of me.

The crown prince bellowed in fury, then his death affinity speared the king. But the king vanished in a blink of mistphasing magic.

Norivun’s roar echoed in the room.

A gurgling sound filled my mouth. I tried to speak. Tried to tell him that I loved him and always would, but my body was growing so cold, and I couldn’t whisper a word.

“Heal yourself, Ilara. Please!” His handsworked to stanch the blood flow as his four guards battled the king’s guards before they raced for the door.

Other voices yelled and screamed, but I couldn’t discern what they were saying.

My entire focus was on the male hovering above me. There was so much I had wanted to do with him in this lifetime. So many things I would never get to experience at his side.

“No! Don’t even fucking think it. I can’t live without you!” His hand tightened over my wound. Blackness coated the edge of my vision. “Heal yourself, my love. Use your angel affinity.”

A huge push of his power barreled toward me on the bond. It was enough to snap me out of the darkness that wanted to consume me.

A force of his air shot into my mouth and tunneled through the blood pooling in my throat. My mate’s air affinity filled my lungs as desperation skated over his face. “For me. Stay alive, forme,” he begged.

A tingle of magic burned in my gut. I called upon both my life-giving affinity and my angel power simultaneously. Heat roared through my veins. I concentrated on bringing all of my magic to the puncture wound that had severed the thick blood vessel in my neck. My life-giving affinity spiraled up from my belly, and my angel magic uncoiled from between my shoulder blades. But the blackness still wanted to consume me, and I knew it would have if Norivun’s air affinity wasn’t keeping me alive.

I concentrated harder, doing my best to push thedarkness away. Magic, light, cold power...It all blended together and clouded around my throat.

“How is that possible?” a voice whispered from across the room.

“Is she healing herself?” a female hissed.

“Mother Above and Below, have you ever seen such a thing?”

Strength began to flow into me as my dual powers worked simultaneously to knit together the skin and blood vessels in my neck while keeping my soul tethered to my body. With each second that passed, the hope and relief flowing from Norivun into me increased.

“Yes, that’s it. Keep working, my love,” he whispered.

“She’s going to be all right, my prince.” Haxil’s gruff tone filled my ears. All four of his guards appeared in my line of sight.

“The bastard got away,” Nish said quietly to my mate.

“So did his guards.” Sandus’s worried eyes met mine. “Well done, Ilara. You’re a true warrior.”
