I’ve never seen my mom so content.

And two months later, she’s breaking the lease and moving to Kansas City, and I’m moving in with Jimbob. I guess like mother, like son.

“I think that’s the last of it,” Jimbob says, grinning at me. I stare at him in wonder. It never ceases. I can’t believe this is happening. I’m moving in with him. His house is stuffed full ofmy boxes and one of our cats has come to live with us. She’s under the bed right now, pouting, but I’m sure that she will become friends with McMuffin soon. And hopefully Abra-ham too, the piggy who is currently squealing at me to pick him up. So I do, nuzzling his little head against my cheek.

“I think so. Are you sure this is okay?” I ask, feeling suddenly insecure. Even though I’ve spent every night over here since meeting Richard, I can’t help but wonder if maybe I’m inconveniencing Jimbob somehow. His place isn’t that big, and now I’m crowding him.

“Braxton,” Jimbob says with a small sigh, pulling me and Abra-ham into his arms and kissing the top of my head. “I’ve wanted you to do this since the day you kissed me. I was already married to you that day.”

I blush at that and let out a small laugh. “Stop it.”

“I mean it. You’re that good of a kisser.”

I can’t help but laugh at him. He’s always trying to get me to laugh and most of the time, it works. He’s the biggest dork.

“Thank you, for housing a homeless guy.”

“Nah, you’re my homeless boyfriend.”

I shake my head, a big smile on my face, and then lean up and press a kiss to his perfect lips. His tongue slips into my mouth and tangles with mine before pulling away.

“We have lots to do, Braxton. We can’t get distracted now.”

I mean, we could get distracted, but I do realize there is a lot to unpack.

“And we have dinner tonight at my mom’s. She’s making us a special cloud cake.”

“What the fuck is that?” I ask, and Jimbob chuckles, moving away from me and grabbing a box, bringing it into his bedroom.

“A real slice of heaven.”

I roll my eyes and help with unpacking.

My computer is already set up in Jimbob’s room, and last month I finished their website. Orders have been pouring in for the cute farm animal treats, so much so that they’ve had to hire someone from town to help with production. Now I’m working on Beck’s site and getting his cheese posted for purchase through his online store.

Apparently, word has spread, and now I have at least four other business owners in town who want me to help create websites. Jimbob couldn’t be prouder of me and gloats about it incessantly to friends and random people he meets on the street. It’s embarrassing really. I usually end up hiding behind him when he goes on and on.

Not that he lets me hide for long. He always pulls me out from my hiding spot and makes me hand them a business card—business cards that Jimbob made me order.

My phone suddenly pings, and I see a message from another small business owner in town, asking about my availability and rates. I try to put it away before Jimbob can glance at it, but he sees all.

“Another client, huh?” he asks with a grin.

“No,” I grumble but can’t help the blush that spreads through my cheeks. I am pretty damn proud. Sometimes I can’t believe this is my life.

“I know it is. Can’t fool me.”

I roll my eyes again and set a box on his bed and open it. I peer inside and quickly shut it, feeling my already pink cheeks darken.

“What? What’s wrong? Did you find a spider?” Jimbob asks, and I shake my head, setting the box on the floor and kicking it aside.

“No. It’s nothing.”

But Jimbob’s curiosity is piqued. “What’s in the box?”

“Nothing.”

He’s bigger than me and moves me out of the way, peering in the box and pulling out a giant dildo and some anal beads. I about melt into the floor.
