"If you see her, can you tell her to call me, please."

"Honestly? Probably not."

He's such an asshole."Alex."

"I'm just saying, I'm not your messenger. She has your number. if she wanted to get in contact with you, she'd know how to. And if she didn't, then I'm not going to be the one to tell her to."

It's becoming blatantly clear to me why Alex and I never became good friends.

"It's important."

He sniggers. "It always is with you, isn't it, Mr. Kingsley Baxter? The golden child. The darling of the business scene. GQ's Man of the year, what was it 2018? Really? Like your ego is not inflated enough."

My fingers flex inside my pockets, and I will them to stay in there. "What's your problem with me, Alex? No, really. What's the point of all this? You still feel like you're competing for Ernest's attention after all these years?"

"I wasn't doing that."

Could've fooled me. "No? Sure felt like it. Although why, I don't know. I always respected your relationship with Ernest."

"How revisionist of you," he snaps, his voice sharp with bitterness.

"I don't have time to argue this with you right now. Or ever, to be honest. Please tell Luna that wherever she is. I'll come and get her."

He sits back in his chair and folds his arms. "Why would she do that, when she has my number? And she has for fifteen years, and I've been there for her through everything."

Fuck him."But when her father died, who did she come to? On the day of her father's funeral, who was she with that night?"

His sharp inhale is the only evidence that he's shocked. And even though I know I've said too much, it had the effect I wanted it to.

"'See you around, Alex."

He stands, white knuckles on the edge of his desk. "She'll come back to me, you know?"

"We'll see about that. But when it comes to Luna, get used to losing. I'm not backing down. Ever."

"You're going to regret saying that, Kingsley. I promise you."

"Good to see your spine finally growing, Alex. See you on the battlefield."

I eye the Boccioni Ernest bought from me for him and a final retort plays on my tongue.

But I push it back, Luna's voice in my head.

She'd hate me for ruining that memory for Alex, and as much as I hate him right now, I couldn't bear her disappointment.

Her anger right now is fucking with my head but her disappointment would bring me to my knees.

I get in the car. One last place to check for her.

Luna

"Luna, shower's free, babe."

I turn onto my side and stare at Peeta, fresh from her shower, hair still in its silk bonnet, prancing around in a pair of love heart shorts and a tank top.

"Ta-Tas," I say, calling her by the nickname that always makes us giggle when I use it. "Aren't you cold?"
