He wouldn't leave me waiting like this.

Unless...

Unless he wasn't coming.

I shake my head. It's just Alex's behavior and Kingsley's mother's words rattling me. There wouldn't be any reason for him not to come.

Would there?

I'm just about to panic when a text message comes through and I can breathe again.

Forty-Two

Kingsley

"Gentlemen! We have beenstuck on this call for half an hour and we are no closer to a solution. I'm going to give you five more minutes and then I'm hanging up, and I will be making the final decision and you will just have to deal with it. And I'd rather not have to do that, but you've had long enough to sort this out.”

Damien shakes his head, as pissed off as I am. This problem should've been solved weeks ago, and somehow, somewhere along the way, someone dropped the ball.

As a joint venture between the Sydney and London office, it's up to us to fix it.

Matthias and Kylian went ahead in the first car with the women, and Damien and I have been sitting here for half an hour banging our heads up against a brick wall.

I mute the call. "Who fucked up here?"

Damien rubs the bridge of his nose. "The warehouse. That's the bottom line. Look we know what has to be done. Put double, triple shifts on. Get finance to run the numbers, but I think there's no other way. We need the shipment ready in two weeks for the launch. Might cut the margin down to, I don't know, 25% instead of 33%. "

Shit. That's going to fuck with a whole slew of plans. But that's what they are, plans.

"Fuck it. There's really no other way though, is there?"

"I don't think so."

I close my eyes and think about it for ten more seconds and then make my decision. "Okay. I'm calling it. Can you tell them? I need to go in and see her."

"Yeah. Go. If you see My-Linh..."

"...I'll tell her you'll be right in."

"Thanks." Damien unmutes the call. "Time's up. Now it's your turn to listen. And if anyone wants to argue, I suggest you get your CV up to date."

I jump out of the car, feeling sick when I check the time.

She's been waiting for over an hour for me. I don't even have my phone to call her to let her know I'm on my way, I left it in the car with Damien.

I run inside, ignoring all the people calling my name.

"Clarissa!" I shout, the tallest of my brother's partners standing out from the crowd. "Have you seen Luna?" She shakes her head, her eyes worried when she sees how frantic I am.

I push myself through the crowd.

A familiar face.

"Alex!" I'm actually relieved to see him. "Have you seen Luna?"

He shakes his head. "Not for a while."

"But she came with you." If it comes my words come out accusatory, that's because they are.
