"Yeah, but we had a, er… She went for a walk. I'm sure she's around here somewhere."

What a jerk. He couldn't care less about her. He should've known how nervous she would've been in a place like this for the first time.

"Kingsley! Who are you looking for? That cute little girlfriend of yours?" Drake Farmington corners me out of nowhere. "Luna Hamilton.Has a ring to it, doesn't it?"

What's he saying? "What? No, her name is Pham."

He sniggers. "That's not what I've been hearing."

Panic streak through my body. Where could she be?

Is it always going to feel this way? That I'm never going to feel calm unless she's by my side?

"Kingsley!" Damien grabs my arm as I rush past him by the door. I didn't even see him. "Here's your phone."

"Thank you. I can't find Luna."

He flicks his eyes to me. "So, check."

"What?"

"Check where she is. Don't you have her phone tracked?"

I freeze. "What? How do you know that?"

"Because I knowyou."

I grimace. Flipping the phone back and forth in my hand. "I told her I'd stop doing that. There was a whole... thing."

He just shrugs. "Fine. Suit yourself. But I know what I would do if I couldn't find My-Linh and I was looking as frantic as you are right now."

When he's right, he's right. That's why he's my anchor.

"Fine." I bring up the app. "Okay, it says she's over there." I hold up the phone to show him.

We crane our necks towards where the dot on the screen is pointing us to, but she's not there. "Maybe she's outside on the other side of the wall? Getting some air?" Damien suggests.

I squeeze his arm out of gratitude and head to the exit.

Once outside, I turn into the side alley where the GPS had shown her phone, just hoping she hasn't moved.

In the dark, I see her silhouette at the other end of the alley.

She's there.

My body breaks out into a relief.

"Luna!"

She slowly turns toward me, her face breaking into a soft smile. "Kingsley. You made it. I thought you weren't coming."

I walk toward her. "I'm so sorry, I got caught up..."

"No… that's... okay..." her voice grows weak, and that's when I notice the front of her dress...bloomed with a spreading red stain.

"Luna?" I shout, breaking out into a run to her.

"Kingsley? I think..." her voice breaks and slowly drops to her knees. "I think..."
