Kingsley takes another step forward and towers over Alex, his face a tornado of fire and ice.

“That’s where you’re wrong. I’m the trustee of Luna’s estate, and her well-being is my business. And right now, that’s getting her as far the fuck away from you as possible.”

With that, he tugs me toward the passenger side of the car. After opening the door, he helps me inside, then he slams the door closed before he runs to the driver’s side and slides in.

And drives far, far away.

“Drink.”

She frowns and shakes her head, eyes still closed.

“Luna, I saiddrink.”

She growls gently but doesn’t move. “You tell me to do that a lot.”

“You seem to need reminding a lot. Just take one sip of the tea and I won’t ask again for a while.”

She holds her hands out, but her eyes stay closed.

“Just sip slowly,” I whisper, holding the cup up to her lips.

“It’s hot,” she complains, then clamps her lips shut.

I bring the cup to my lips, checking it. “It’s not hot.”

“Blow on it, please.”

Rolling my eyes, I gently blow on it, although it’s wholly unnecessary. “Fine, I blew on it.”

“Not enough.”

I press the cup to her mouth, letting the liquid touch her lip to show her it’s not too hot. “Just drink, you crazy little nutter.”

This time she obeys, taking a little sip. “I’m sleepy,” she murmurs through moistened lips.

“I know. Take just one more sip for me and you can go back to sleep, okay?”

She takes another sip. And then another. “Where are we going?”

“Does it matter?”

She sips one more time, swallows, then sinks back into the car seat, never once opening her eyes. “I guess not.”

“So stop asking questions and go back to sleep.”

“I probably should ask you another question, since you won’t tell me where we’re going…”

“Fine, one question.”

“Ax or…”

“Ax.”

“Is it in the trunk?”
