Of course, it was. Because that was the kind of world I now lived in, with giants named Little.

I led Celine to her car and waited until she locked her door before I headed to my Harley. As I reached for my helmet, I heard someone call out to me.

“Yo, rich boy! Where the fuck do you think you’re going?”

It was the asshole from the club.

I turned around to face him and didn’t even see his fist coming at my face.

CHAPTER 14

CELINE

Iglanced at my rearview mirror to make sure Marcus was following me because I was a little rattled by the fact that Monani’s men were still on my tail. I thought they would have tired of me long ago. To my surprise, the creep who had asked me for a lap dance earlier threw a punch at Marcus and caught him unawares.

I jumped out of the car and ran to them screaming. But someone caught me before I got to them. It was Little.

“Stay out of it, girl. I got this,” he promised.

I nodded and forced myself to stay where I was. I knew from experience that it was stupid to try and break up a fight. But it was Marcus! It killed me to just stand here and watch him get beaten.

I guess I forgot that it was Marcus. He wasn’t going to let anyone beat him up.

Before Little could get to him, he regained his balance, and with a roar, he grabbed the creep by the scruff of his neck and slammed him face-down onto the concrete. There was an audible crunch as the rat’s nose smashed into the ground.

Blood spilled down Marcus’s face from where the man’s ring had cut into his cheek. But he didn’t care. He was like a man possessed as he knelt on the creep’s back and kept slamming his face into the ground.

Little grabbed his hands and forced him to stop.

“Easy, man. He’s out. Your girl is safe,” he murmured. “I’ll hold him till the cops get here. You go to Celine. She’s shaking like a leaf.”

He wasn’t wrong. I was trembling and could barely hold myself up as I walked towards Marcus. He straightened and came to me.

“I’m fine,” he said reassuringly. “I’m okay, Celine. Don’t cry, baby.”

That’s when I realized that I was ugly-crying, with snot and everything.

“Your poor face,” I sobbed. “He hit you!”

“And I hit him back. We’re even,” he said lightly.

“Nuh-uh. He punched you, and you rearranged his face to look like the map of Uranus,” said Little, with a laugh. “You’re not even. You’re way ahead, man. Respect.”

“Stop that, Little,” I said sharply. “He could have been badly hurt! We need to get you to the ER, honey.”

I pressed a clean tissue to his face to stanch the bleeding, but Marcus shook his head.

“It’s just a scratch, baby. I’ve had worse. Trust me, I’ll be fine.”

“Worse? What do you mean, worse?” I asked shrilly.

“I’ve been in a big skiing accident once. Broke seven bones when I went flying off a mountain in Aspen,” he replied with a short laugh and then winced in pain.

“Stop being a hero, Your Holiness, and let’s get that cut checked out. It looks deep.”

I nagged him until he agreed to call his doctor home for a quick visit. It was the first time I had seen a doctor drop everything and show up at a patient’s house for something as simple as a facial laceration, but being a billionaire clearly had its advantages. If we had gone to the ER as I had suggested, we would have waited there until midnight before someone checked on him.

I needed to pick Rose up from daycare, but I didn’t want to make Marcus wait.
