My heart races as I rush toward him letting the door slam behind me. There’s not a second to waste.

Leaping into his arms he lifts me, and I wrap my legs around his waist pressing my lips down on his, hard and hungry. Hetenses at first, but in a matter of seconds the tenseness of his muscles eases and he presses me into him tightly.

“This is a nice surprise,” he says in between kisses.

“I didn’t want to miss a chance to send you off with saying a proper ‘good luck.’“ I smile a little shyly.

His lips twitch upwards and swiftly he carries me to the bed, laying me down and grinding his body into mine.

A groan leaves my lips as I nibble on his soft earlobe. His hands work quickly to slide my shirt off above my head and toss it to the wayside. Next, he removes my pants leaving me naked and exposed.

He explores my body with reckless abandon. We rock in unison and waves of pleasure ripple through my body.

“I love you,” he whispers as we lay there in the aftermath of our quick and passionate moment.

Heat spreads against my cheeks, my skin prickles and I turn to face him. This is the first time he’s told me he loves me. “I love you too.” I say softly.

His fingers trace against my jaw and then he sniffs and smiles, “beef stew?”

“I figured you guys might want to fill up before you go.”

The room erupts in Chase’s wonderful laughter, and against my better judgment, I push myself out of bed and swiftly put my clothes back on. As I head out of the door to check on the stew I turn back and smile at Chase, committing every one of his angles and contours to memory. I never want to forget this moment, the first time Chase said he loved me.

Chapter 17

Chase

The neon lights of the bar cast a vibrant glow as Isaiah and I step inside. The low hum of conversation and the clinking of glasses surround us, but my mind is consumed by the urgency of our mission. A few members of the Grey Pack occupy a corner booth near the back.

All their eyes are trained on us as we make our way toward them through the crowd. Alpha Malachi Grey raises an eyebrow as we approach.

“Well, well, if it isn’t Chase and Isaiah gracing us with their presence. What brings you to our humble abode away from home?” His lips are curled into a sarcastic smile.

I take a steadying breath, meeting Isaiah’s gaze before addressing Malachi. “We’ve got a situation, and we need your help.”

Malachi leans back, crossing his arms. “Help? What’s this situation you speak of?”

A few of his pack members let out a hearty round of laughter. The smugness on Malachi’s face is begging to be wiped off, but with another deep breath, I remind myself there is more at stake here than just my pride.

Isaiah steps forward, his massive form imposing. “This isn’t just about us. It’s about all of us—the entire supernatural community.”

Raising my hand an inch Isaiah takes a step back. “You know those missing pack members of yours? I am pretty sure we know where they are, that is if they are still alive.”

“Where are they then?” He growls.

“Have you heard of DHS?”

His eyes narrow, “The Department of Human Security?”

“Mm, also known as the Dark Horizon Syndicate.”

A stupid prideful pleasure fills me as I watch Malachi and his pack members exchange nervous glances across the table.

A murmur ripples through the Grey Pack, and Malachi’s expression grows serious. “DHS? You’re telling me they’re involved with the syndicate?”

“I’m telling you they are the syndicate. We’ve got intel. They’re planning something big, and we can’t face them alone. We need the strength of our packs combined, to stand a chance. This is a huge government-backed operation.”

Malachi leans forward, his eyes narrowing. “What’s in it for us?”
