“We have a problem,” Samuel says out of breath.

“What’s going on? Where’s Isaiah?” Chase asks in a calm authoritative voice.

My heart skips a beat and I roll my shoulders back sitting up straight, my eyes trained on Samuel.

“Isaiah is the problem!” Samuel catches his breath, “We were working on updating the kitchen, finishing touches, and then Isaiah went out back to grab some supplies. He was taking forever, I mean like half an hour just to grab a few sheets of beadboard, so I went out to look for him and he was gone.”

“Gone?” I say loudly.

The room closes in on me, and my skin prickles, Madison instinctively puts her hand over mine squeezing it gently.

“I followed his scent,” he swallows and looks at me apologetically, I swallow hard. “When I found him, he was hanging all over this girl. He refused to come back to ‘Catch of the Day’. I could hardly get him to speak to me at all. He said he had ‘everything he needs right here’ and then he kissed the girl and didn’t stop until I decided it was best to come back here.”

I’m going to throw up,Madison’s hand squeezes mine tight and Chase’s mouth hangs open momentarily.

“He what?” My mind spins around until it finally clicks, the young woman from my shop today. “Was the girl he was with blonde?” I manage to ask even through the dry scratching in my throat.

“Yeah, how did you know?”

“I sold this creepy blonde a seriously intense love potion today. I knew I shouldn’t have done that.” I say looking around at everyone ashamedly.

“Is there anything we can do about this?” Chase turns to me with a somber expression on his face.

“No. not really. I mean I’ll have to call my mom and ask her what to do. IF there’s anything that can be done,” the words nearly stick to my esophagus, eyes welling with tears.

“Hon, we’ll figure it out,” Madison says standing up. “Why don’t we have an old-fashioned sleepover at your place tonight, just us girls and a few massive bottles of wine?”

“That’s so sweet of you Madison but I think I need to spend some time alone.” I say with tears in my eyes.

Chapter 11

Isaiah

The sun shines so brightly, my eyes squint even when I’m looking at the pavement. I can’t believe my luck. This woman that I’m with... she’s beautiful, amazing, wonderful, and everything that I ever knew before seems to fade into the background. The only important thing is her and me in this moment right now.

“Do you think you have enough snacks?” She asks a glint of humor in her eyes. Those beautiful hazel eyes.

“I think so,” I say teasingly and wrap my arms around her and, pull her into me for a kiss. I savor this moment. The way her blonde hair glistens in the light. She tastes like cherries and smells like cotton candy.

“Then let’s hit the road, I’d like to make it up to the cabin before the sunsets. The view is to die for.”

“This view is to die for,” I pull her out at arm’s length and drink her in.

“If you like what you see now just wait until tonight,” she winks and playfully pushes me off her and opens the passenger side door to my truck. “I think you should get a new paint job, this orange doesn’t suit you.”

“Whatever you say, my love,” my heart patters. Her every wish is my command.

“I like it when you call me that,” she smiles at me as I start the engine.

“How far away is your cabin again?” I ask cheerfully.

“It’s only a three-hour drive. Secluded though, we will be on our own with no distractions.” She says seductively.

I lick my lips. I can get down with that. A flash of red enters my mind like an alarm sounding but I push the thought away, sinking it deep into the abyss. Sunshine fills my thoughts once more. Jessie, my sunshine.

I can’t remember when I met her or how we met. All I know is that nothing matters aside from the way I feel about her right now. We could start a family, have cute little kids, and escape the hells of reality together. I want that more than anything in the world.

The road stretches out ahead of us, bright green trees swaying gently in the breeze. My skin prickles with the heat of anticipation. The first night I spent with her was nothing but pure bliss.
