As I continue traveling through this astral realm I’m caught in, it darkens, unfolding like a tapestry of shifting shadows. The man who wears my face suddenly stands before me once more but this time I am acutely aware that this has become no nightmare, and not exactly reality as I know it either, but real in itself.

His smile grows, “Hello daughter,” he says in a saccharine sweet voice. A sort of curated kindness, but tendrils of malevolence reach through his facade and into the core of my being.

“Hello ‘father,’ I say as we lock eyes.

The beast, my ‘dad,’ attempts to torment me as he has in the past but there is a glowing presence of warmth and strength surrounding me from which I can pull strength into myself. His shadowy taunts are meant to terrify me. Instead, I find myself growing more resistant and confident.

“Never give in, never let him take you, you are stronger than you know,” Isaiah’s voice rings clearly in my head. Emboldening me. Opening my mind with what Isaiah said, to help me realize what my ‘father’ is trying to do. He’s trying to make my mind, my psyche weak so he can do with me as he pleases. But I am resisting his maneuvers at every point.

In the physical world, I can feel my body respond to the psychic battle that is occurring in the astral world I’m also in, tensing from the physical manifestations of this absurd struggle. Every psychic assault by my ‘dad’ is met with a determinedcounter by me. Soon the boundaries between the two realms start blurring from the intensity of our confrontation.

My father’s hands attempt to go through me once more. But this time his fists are met with solid matter. His eyes widen, surprised by my resistance. “You cannot have my body,” I spit at him with disgust.

“Why do you think II infected your biological father with my DNA? You were only created so that I could have you in the end. So that you could be my vessel, my doorway back to the physical world. The world where I belong.” My ‘father’ states impatiently.

“If you belong in the physical world then why do you need me? Why are you trapped here?” I challenge, my voice laced with defiance.

“That bitch mother of yours and that stupid human hid you from me for all these years. You know that’s why your father is truly sick, right? He’s been sacrificing his life force to hide you away, but I found you. I found you anyway.” He smirks.

My father is sick, because of me? It can’t be. Mom always told me his ex-girlfriend was at the root of his illness. They must have known and kept something like this from me all my life.

“You might have found me now, but I won’t let my parent’s sacrifice be in vain.” I say in a low determined voice.

“I’m afraid you won’t have a choice.”

“I beg to differ,” I retort with a scoff.

The malevolence in his eyes sends shivers through the astral landscape, but still, I face him head-on. A newfound awareness pulses within me, a dormant power stirring to life.

As my ‘father’ continues to attempt to torment and weaken me, a realization dawns - I am not powerless here. The energy surrounding me is not merely a backdrop; it’s a wellspring of potential, waiting to be harnessed.

As I focus on the pulsating energy that courses through this realm. I see myself becoming one with the energy, being able to harness and manipulate the energy around me to help myself.

I draw on the strength welling inside of me, a gift from being loved and loving so purely. From the love of Mom, Dad, and Isaiah. The energy responds to my presence even more now.

I become aware of a latent ability within me, a power to absorb and harness the energy of this realm. The knowledge surges forth as if it had been waiting patiently, hidden in the recesses of my being. A smile tugs at my lips as I embrace this revelation.

“You cannot have my body,” I declare again, my voice charged with newfound determination.

My ‘dad’ responds by creating new powerful psyche assaults that he throws at me. But this time, they bounce off the protective barrier that I am able to create around me from absorbing the energy of the realm.

Focusing my new energy on this weak, trapped man, I unleash the absorbed energy in a powerful surge. The astral landscape quakes as the boundary between our two worlds shivers under its force.

In a burst of blinding light, the astral realm stabilizes. And the man bursts into billions of tiny light particles. I sense his power all around me and absorb it also, into my energy field. The echoes of our psychic struggle fade. The battle is over. I’ve won.

The astral realm begins to dissipate, and the walls of my shop appear around me. Lots of faces, unfamiliar faces appear, but in that sea, I find my shining beacon. The familiar face of my love, “Isaiah,” I say, my voice coming out much hoarser than I’d expected.

“It’s you, I knew you would find a way to make it back to me.” He scoops me up into his arms and kisses me deeply, cradlingmy nearly limp form gently, as though he were carrying the world’s most precious treasure. “I love you, Lorelei.”

“I love you too Isaiah, with all my heart,” I say before the dizziness of the world overwhelms me and I pass out in Isaiah’s arms.

Chapter 17

Isaiah

“Is that the last of your boxes?” I ask hefting up a heavy box and placing it into the van.

“Yes, it is,” Lorelei stares at the windows to her apartment above the shop wistfully.
