“Lead the way,” I try my best not to appear too eager.

Lorelei’s apartment has a real industrial appeal to it. Exposed air ducts, pipes, and brick walls juxtapose the cozy warm woods, excessive number of plants, and hundreds of potions on every available surface. The place has an ineffable allure that says, ‘Stay a while,’ despite its small blueprint.

“It’s not much,” she says from the kitchen as she watches me take in my surroundings, “but it is home.”

“I like it, it suits you,” I said glancing around at the thriving plants all around her place.

“Go ahead and take a seat at the counter if you’d like, I’ve got to prep the meal before I can set it and forget it.”

“Thanks,” I say settling into a padded leather bar stool at the kitchen island. “So... you mentioned earlier that your mom warned you about what happened today. What did you mean by that?”

“Mom’s not exactly keen on me settling to a small town. She’s a city girl through and through and she believes that the words ‘small town’ are equivalent to ‘small minds.’ Of course, there are small minds all over the globe. She just doesn’t want to hear that.”

“Hmm, I suppose both of you are right. I’ll say there do tend to be more good-hearted folks in this town than bad-hearted. I see quite a few people daily at ‘‘Catch of the Day’’ and even before then, in my travels, that fit into both categories. Were you spooked enough to consider leaving town today?”

“And let my mom think she is right? Not a chance.” She says with a sly grin as she expertly dices carrots into small evenly sized cubes.

“You’ve got a stubborn streak in you then,” I say approvingly.

“You don’t know the half of it.” She smiles coyly.

“Maybe not, but I am hoping I’ll find out.” She blushes and meets my eye with a sexy bat of her eyelashes.

Being this close to Lorelei is tantalizing. I want nothing more than to scoop her up into my arms and devour her, but I am fighting those urges with every bit of strength I have. I need to be on my best behavior, so I don’t scare her away.

“Isaiah, you just might find out yet.” The words cause my stomach to turn upside down and my palms to sweat. No one has ever even come close to making me this nervous.

The feelings that flood a shifter when they find their mate are like nothing I’ve ever experienced in my life.Patience, patience, patience. That word is my new mantra, playing repeatedly in my mind.

The kitchen fills with the aroma of sizzling garlic and onions causing my mouth to water, “It’s funny how those two alliums cooking together never fail to make me hungrier than I already am.” I say almost salivating.

“Onions have all sorts of surprising properties. It’s said they can absorb negative energy and sickness. You never want to eat an onion that’s been cut and left out because you won’t be able to know what it’s taken in.”

“Is that so?” I say fascinated.

“Mmm, and garlic is incredibly healing and I’m sure you’ve heard that ‘whole garlic keeps vampires away’ thing. I think that rumor started because the Greeks would wear garlic to guard against the possession of evil spirits, amongst other things. On the other hand,” she says looking up at me with a wicked grin, “garlic has also been said to be an aphrodisiac. So much so that monks who took a vow of celibacy were unable to indulge in its dastardly delights.”

“So, you’re trying to seduce me?” I raise an eyebrow.

“Do you think it would take garlic for me to do that?” she asks with a smirk.

“Not at all,” leaning back in my seat to appreciate the view a little more.

She snorts, turns off the stove, and puts her mixture into a cast iron pan, topping it with creamy mashed potatoes. Once she slides it into the oven, she sets a timer that’s magnetized to her refrigerator.

“We’ve got a half an hour until it’s ready. Any idea how we can make good use of that time?” She asks sauntering toward me.

“I’ve got a couple,” I’m already hardening against the zipper of my pants.

“I figured you might.” She says stepping between my spread legs and wrapping her arms around my neck her lips nearly brushing mine but just out of reach. Her breath is sweet like honey and cinnamon.

I lean into her, and our lips meet, the heat of passion broiling between us. The fullness of her lips welcomes mine. Her tongue slips into my mouth expertly.

I have never wanted anything more in my entire life. My cock rages against my pants now threatening to burst through the seams and yet there is this small voice in the back of my head nagging me.

Are you sure you want it to be like this?

The fullness of her breasts presses against my chest and pushes into me more with each gasp of breath she takes. My blood pumps so ferociously that one would think it was the Amazon River.
