“My Corvette?”

“You can always buy another. You can’t buy another life, and a chance to be happy with Nico.” Chad understood when he heard the truth. And this was the truth. If I couldn’t convince my hard-headed brother to go away for a time, then there would be nothing left of a family and he would have to leave anyway. “Now go and do what I said. Pack.” Chad rose from his seat and turned, and when he passed me, I hit him on the shoulder. He continued walking.

I took a moment to gather my thoughts before speaking to my pig-headed brother, who had locked himself away with Romeo. Then I hurried up the stairs and banged on the door.

“Who the fuck is it? If you don’t want me to bash your head in and—oh it’s you. What the fuck now? What is so fucking important that you would have me stop what I’m doing? It better be good because in a minute I expect to be balls deep in Romeo’s sweet ass.” He turned to smile at an obviously naked Romeo.

“Get dressed, Nico. There are more important things than you fucking some random boy you pick up—”

“That’s the best kind of fuck. Casual random sex is the best. You need to try it sometime.” Then he winked at me and looked over his shoulder in the direction of his bed.

“Nico, I don’t have time for this shit. You have fucked around on Chad too many times since you let it be known to everyone that you’re gay. Some families frowned on it, but they didn’t judge you, and came to accept your choice, because it appeared you were in love. That is until you began fucking around with more than one boy. Men like consistency. As long as everyone knew Chad was your intended fiancé, the families overlooked everything. Now your men have become cynical of you, and are wondering what you’re going to do. Are you going to whisper something in your sleep and cause them all kinds of trouble?

“The way you’re behaving, one of our opposing families could put a plant in this family the way you’re conducting your life. What are you going to do next, cruise the alleys for someone to fuck, and who knows what you’ll do if you fall in love with that random fuck. You might give him the code to—”

“Hold on, Dante. I run this family—”

“Not for long if you’re sucking every new cock in town, and don’t ask me how I know about your sexual habits. You talk in your sleep for instance.”

For once Nico shut up and listened, which was a first. “You know how the men feel about Chad, and everyone thought you would slow down on bringing dudes to your bed. Chad is one of the crew now, because you included him in all your misadventures, for example, killing Angelo. Couldn’t you keep him out of that? I thought you wanted to settle down with him and stop your whoring around—”

“You don’t know the whole story, Dante. You think you know. I called you to come to me and clean up this mess.”

“I’m always cleaning up your messes. Just what are you about, and who are you? You have to decide if you want to be a leader, or on your knees, and a slave to every new cock?”

“Now those words are more appropriate for you, my brother, just leave out the part of the cock.” Nico began his pacing around the large room. Standing near the fireplace and warming his hands and ass. “You don’t know everything about me, Dante, especially about Angelo.”

I really didn’t care. That was over and now the real cleaning up had begun, and that was my job.

“Look, Nico, be serious. Now is not the time to be stupid and to try to change history. Let’s not talk about Angelo again. He’s gone. That’s the past.”

Nico narrowed his eyes because he knew what I meant. When it came to young men he never thought. His cock controlled him and his outrageous temper, and that was why we could be in a war soon with Alonzo and his crew over the disappearance of Angelo.

“Someone in our ranks told Alonzo that you killed his brother.” Nico turned and paced the length of the rug. Around and around passing his fingers through his hair. I marched over to him and stood in front of him, and he paused and took a deep breath.

For the first time I saw panic and indecision on Nico’s face. His brow furrowed and he had a way of flicking his fingers by his side when he was nervous.

“You have to act now. I’ve instructed Chad what to do, and since you thought it was necessary to send everyone home so you can traipse around with Romeo and have an orgy, the only one left is Chad to take you to the airport. He’s going with you, and I don’t want to hear any shit from you, Nico. You know you fucked up when you brought Romeo here and put him in the bed in the room where Chad had been sleeping. The men don’t like outsiders. They’re suspicious of them, and rightly so.”

“Who in my crew ratted on me?”

“If I knew, he would be dead. I’d do it myself. You know I love you, brother, and I’m loyal. I’m going to find out and calm Alonzo down, and then when I say you can come back, then you can be assured that everything is taken care of. But you will have to change what you’re doing. If you’re gay, no one cares. What they care about is you fucking around with different boys and have it come back on them where they will either go to jail, get whacked by Alonzo’s crew, and lose their earning money for their wives and children, not to mention their outside women.”

“I understand, Dante. I know you mean me good. Take over for me in my absence and I’ll mend fences with Chad. I’ve been treating him shitty lately, and he doesn’t deserve it. But one thing more. You have to get rid of Romeo. You know how I hate loose ends.”

I didn’t know how I felt about that, but Nico was serious. When he wanted someone gone he meant it. He was apparently taken care of old business so he could go on to make his changes. When it came to his family business, everyone was expendable except me. That was if I followed his rules. If I didn’t, then he would order someone to take me out, and I knew it.

I sucked in a large breath and watched Nico stroll confidently up the stairs, but instead of going to his room, he entered Chad’s. That was his way of giving out an order, and not having the guts to carry it out himself. He liked the boys he’d slept with, and when they were of no use to him, or they’d fallen out of favor because of sex or money, he ordered someone to have them disappear. He was doing the same thing with Romeo, only I had to make the decision, and I didn’t know if I could.

What was I going to tell him that I didn’t say before? “Don’t get involved with my brother.” Well, that ship had sailed. I had a lot to think about when I made myself a sandwich and searched the pantry for chips, and then as I climbed the stairs with Romeo to Nico’s room to look Romeo in his beautiful, impressionable eyes.

Chapter 9

Romeo

When Dante left the room, I had been filled and intoxicated with the thought of him having made love to me. He might have thought it was fucking, but it was much more to me. I was in love with him. Not just love, but because of a connection.

Our bodies connected, our souls connected. I knew I wanted to be with him the moment I set eyes on his surly expression. With that scowl on his face when we first locked eyes, anyone else would have run, but I saw beneath that hard demeanor.
