He contemplated her. She didn’t exactly look down and out, but her clothes were worn and since she didn’t earn a ton of money at her job, money was most likely an issue. Especially since she’d probably just spent a fortune putting her brother into rehab.

“We’ll figure out how to keep you working. Meanwhile, I have to return to the club. I’ll ask again—the Disciples never saw you with Viper, did they?”

She shuddered. He clamped his fingers into a fist to resist the need to touch her. To settle her. “No. We stopped a few places. I don’t know where exactly. Everything was too confusing and he made me stay in the car anyway. Then we went straight to the church and nobody saw me. Unless there was a camera there?”

“I’ll take care of that too. It’s only been a few hours. It’s unlikely anybody’s looked at the footage.”

“What do we do now?” Her sweet, full lips twisted and she set her top teeth into her plump bottom lip to keep it from trembling.

His gut clenched. Hedidn’twant her afraid. Hedidwant her mouth.

“We’re going to the club. The guys aren’t going to ask questions. They’ll just know you’re with me and therefore, protected. All you do is play the part and act like my bitch.”

The long look she gave him brought a chuckle to his lips.

“I see you don’t like the term, but it’s common in the clubhouse. All I ask is that you stick close to me and if I tell you to do something, know that it’s to keep you safe.”

“Fine. When do we go?”

“Now.”

She muttered something under her breath about an hour of sleep and whether or not she could sleep on a motorcycle. He gave her a moment alone to use the restroom and then led her out to the parking lot.

The deep black of night felt heavy around them as he mounted the cold steel and she climbed on behind him.

He twisted his head to look at her. “Got the helmet strapped on?”

“Yes.”

“Good. Now hang on to me.”

The rough growl of the engine in the silent streets of East Canon echoed off the rundown and abandoned buildings on their way out of town. The ride might be short, but having a beautiful woman plastered against his back with her arms around his waist tested that control he was so damn proud of.

He had women, but he didn’t flaunt them around the club, and he sure as shit didn’t take those club women to bed. So walking in with Wren was going to make people take notice.

When he pulled into the club parking lot, she didn’t immediately let go of him.

“I don’t know what to do in there,” she said.

“You don’t speak. They’ll all be drunk or high and probably won’t take notice of you. But just in case, your name is Wendy in there. I’m Jay. Got it?”

“Yes.” She loosened her hold on him enough that he could swing his leg over the machine. He helped her off too and with her tucked into his side, they entered the club.

The reek of smoke and sex lingered in the air. He felt Wren stiffen against him.

“Hey, it’s Jay! Where ya been, man?”

He gave a chin lift of acknowledgement to one of the guys. “Been having my own kind of party.” He drew Wren a little closer.

The dude chortled with laughter although it wasn’t that funny. Jennings shot him a sly grin and towed Wren through the room, making sure every person there knew she was with him—and off-limits.

A cloud of smoke in the corner and the stench of marijuana had him leaving a wide berth, but he did parade her by the guys just to make sure they all knew she was his property too.

At the bar on the other side of the room, he stopped for a shot.

“You want one, baby?” he asked her.

Big blue eyes met his. “You said I’ve had enough, Jay.”
