“Good, love.” He held out his arm. “Come here.”

Her eyes blazed with tears and emotion. Stumbling over to him, she let out a cry and threw herself into his hold. He clasped her tightly to his side and held her trembling body for a long moment.

After she recovered a bit, he gave her a gentle nudge toward the seat. “Go sit down. I’m going to make sure this fucker is taken care of.”

Wren moved to the seat, and Jennings grabbed hold of Cole and dragged him to the wall of the plane. There, he fastened him to some hooks and left him.

When he returned to Wren, she popped to her feet and flung her arms around him. “Oh my god. Jennings, I was so afraid. I thought I’d lose you. I l-love…l-love you!”

Her confession bored into his brain, seeped to his bones and filled the hollow cavern in his chest. She nestled her body against him, and his heart overflowed with even more emotion.

Hooking his finger under her chin, he lifted her face up to his. Holding her gaze, he leaned in slowly and pressed his lips to hers. She melted into the caress, one hand looped around his nape.

“I love you so damn much, baby.” He crushed her to him and buried his nose in her hair, breathing her scent.

“When they burst into the house and took me—”

He jerked his head up. “What about the other women?”

She shook her head, eyes frantic. “I don’t know. I don’t know what happened to them!”

“I’m going to find out.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone.

“Can you make a call?”

“No. But I can text.” His thumbs worked fast as he shot a message to Lexis.

They took Wren. She’s with me in the air. Subjects subdued. We’re safe.

Wren glanced at the dead man and then away.

“He’s definitely subdued.” She shuddered.

“He got what he had coming to him.” He shot off another text.

Where are the women?

Lexis responded immediately.Safe. But Livingston’s house is gone.

He looked up from his screen into Wren’s eyes. “What does he mean by ‘gone?’” she whispered.

As if he heard her question, Lexis replied:They burned it down.

Chapter Twenty

Jennings climbed from behind the wheel of the rental car. After so many hours on the road from El Paso, his cramped legs had begun to feel like he’d never straighten them. But after they landed and the authorities hauled away the Disciples and confiscated the contents of the cargo plane, Wren flat-out refused to get back in the air.

He didn’t mind though. It gave them plenty of time to talk about what happened.

He also had time for a very, very important side trip to take care of personal business…

As he circled the vehicle to the passenger door where Wren sat, he stared at the charred, blackened ruin of Livingston’s house.

Fuck. They really had burned it down. Again.

The original home had been a complete loss months ago. Livingston and Dove rebuilt, but they weren’t even finished with the interior as far as Jennings knew. Now this…

Wren saw the house and let out a gasp. “Oh nooo. Poor Dove!”
