She sucked in a gasp. Jennings snaked an arm around her waist, pulling her snug against his side. “I mean it, baby. I aim to marry you—as soon as possible.”

When he studied her face, her cheeks were pink and her eyes brighter. “We’re tired after that drive. Did Livingston say there’s a cookout?”

“Yup—my place.” Lexis twitched his head, indicating they should all get back in their vehicles and follow him. “Last guy there has to grill the steaks.”

The guys quickly jumped into the SUV, but Jennings hung back with Wren.

She rested her palms on his chest, tipping her face up to his. “You’re going to get stuck manning the grill.”

“I don’t mind. I actually enjoy it. But Wren…”

She searched his face. “Yes?”

“There’s something else I want to talk to you about.”

She stilled. “What is it?”

“Sentry wants to offer you a contract.”

Her eyelids fluttered. “What? A contract?”

Judging by her expression, he’d caught her off guard. Either that or she was waiting for him to say something else.

“Yeah. The task force won’t only consist of four people forever. And we’re going to need someone who can provide medical care to us. You know, patch us up when we need it.”

She shook her head. “But I don’t have a degree.”

“Not yet. They’ve offered to pay for you to finish medical school in return for devoting some of your time to the team.”

She gaped at him. “Are you serious? How did you manage that?”

He stepped closer to her, cupping her face. “Your fiancé is a pretty smooth talker when he puts his mind to it.”

“Myfiancé!”

In one smooth move, he dropped to one knee.

The diamond ring he pulled out of his jeans pocket glinted. She let out a loud gasp and pressed her hands over her mouth.

“Jennings!” Her eyes swam with tears.

His heart thumped faster. “Wren. You’re the love of my life. I never want to be separated from you. Will you be my wife?”

Her eyes swam with tears that spilled over and ran down both cheeks. When she couldn’t find words, she simply bobbed her head. Then she dropped her hands and threw her arms around his neck.

“Yes! Yes, I’ll be… Oh my god, you just asked me to marry you! You’re not fling material after all! Wait till I tell the girls—”

He cut her off by sliding the ring onto her finger. Then he surged to his feet, hauling her up with him…and claimed her mouth in an endless kiss.

The door blasted open. Jennings didn’t even pause in kissing Wren before he whipped her to face the wall.

Her palms flattened against the drywall, her chest heaving from the lust blazing through her body.

“Don’t move.” His voice burned with its own level of frustration. Who could blame him after he’d fingered her to completion in the car and took nothing for himself?

She heard the lock click. Then his hands landed on her hips. He spread his fingers, spanning her ass.
