I sigh. “It sure was.”

“It does look like you’re cured now,” she says with a mischievous grin.

I frown. “Cured? What are you talking about?”

“Your Resting Scowl Face. It’s gone. There’s nothing but pure bliss in your expression now.”

I laugh and tickle her, making her laugh as well.

I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but I do know this: I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to make her laugh like this, every single day.

And make her come, of course. She deserves nothing but the best.

Epilogue

Emily

Six months later

Before moving to Frosty Crest, I didn’t know it was possible to smile as often as I do these days. I shove my binoculars into my backpack and wave at Brody who is waiting for me on the porch of our cabin.

That’s right, ourcabin. Technically, it’s his, but when I moved in after finishing my degree, he made sure half of it got put into my name. I still need to pinch myself every day, just so I realize that, yes, this is my life, and I’m not dreaming any of it.

It’s real, and it’s awesome.

“Saw some great birds?” Brody asks as I step up onto the porch.

“I did. I’m not too late, am I?”

He shakes his head. “You’re right on time.”

I stand on my tiptoes and kiss him. He’s still as big and bearded as when I met him, but I’m no longer intimidated by him. Brody is my giant.

His arms snake around my waist, and the birds I studied earlier are already forgotten.

“Oh, before I forget,” I say, “I got some more RSVPs for the wedding. Grizz is coming for sure, and so are my aunt and uncle.”

“I’m counting down the days until I can call you my wife.”

Right when I’m about to ask if we have time for a quickie, a big truck barrels onto our property. I guess having sex with my fiancé will have to wait until later.

“Hey, man,” Brody’s brother Flynn says. “And hello, soon-to-be sister-in-law.”

“Hi, Flynn. Did you have a good flight?” I ask.

He grins. “Can’t complain. I’m happy to be back, though.”

Behind him, another truck comes to a standstill, and out jumps Caleb. Soon after, Brody’s cousins arrive. Winnie and her famous husband, Jax, pull in, with Woof barking excitedly from the car. Wren and her adorable son, Navy, pull in next. Navy waves hello before running to play with Woof. And last but never least, pink-haired Willa, jabbering a mile a minute before she’s even closed the door to her car.

I let out a content sigh. The whole family is here.

“Come on, don’t just stand there, guys,” I say, leading everyone to the backyard. “Let’s get some drinks.”

I love being a part of the McAllister family. As I hand everyone a beverage and Brody fires up the barbecue, I get a bit teary-eyed.

“What’s wrong?” my big, bearded mountain man asks.

I let out a happy sigh. “Nothing. It’s just that I realize my dreams of having a big family have finally come true.”
