“No need to fear. I am here to help you,” replies the voice.

The covering is removed from my face and, even though I am still surrounded by the Void’s blackness, I see a light surrounding the entity. It’s Eleos, Goddess of Mercy and Compassion. I reach out to touch her to make sure I’m not hallucinating.

“How did you find me?” I stutter in disbelief.

“Siriarna, you are not like the other semi gods here on Evolirium. In time, you will see. You were put here by the three. Staying here is not meant to be. Time to rise from within. Your true journey is about to begin.”

Eleos silently removes the bindings from my hands and ankles before I see her blue robes vanish.

“Wait, wait, help me, please.” I yell, but I am alone again in the Void. I have no idea what the riddle she left me with means. The message is already fading from my memory.

I strain to try and remember Eleos’ words and find a way out of this predicament. But all I can think about is how I got here. The way I was pulled from my bed in the middle of the night, masked and left shackled alone, causes my eyes to burn at the memory. The room suddenly seems brighter. A menacing glow emanates from the electric bolt that has somehow projected itself skyward from the bottom of the Void.

What did Eleos do?

I look down at my newly freed hands and see the purple has disappeared from my finger. Whoever did this to me has stripped my Propensity power. They have rendered me useless. It’s why my chants didn’t work. The syrup that was forced down my throat; that’s what it did. A guttural scream escapes my lips.No. Not my power.I worked so hard to get into my Propensity and even harder to win the Challenge. This is more than cruel. It’s evil. A new wave of tears spill, and I rock myself back and forth to try and find comfort.

“Siriarna?”

I hear my name. Is it in my head or is someone there, calling for me? It’s hard to tell.Am I going mad?

“Siriarna?”

There it is again. I wait for Eleos to appear like she did before. But she does not.

“Siriarna?”

This time, I recognise Roman’s voice. He’s found me. “I’m down here.” I cry out.

“Hang on Siriarna, I’m going to get High Power Omnisensus.”

“Don’t leave me.” I beg. “Please don’t leave me alone, Roman.”

“I’ll be back as fast as the speed of light. Trust me, you’re safe now.”

Within seconds, I recognise High Power Omnisensus’ voice calling me, “Siriarna, can you hear me?”

“I’m here,” I project my voice as loud as I can from the bottom of the pit.

“Hang tight, we’ll have you out in no time.”

Propensity Leader Xander casts a sheet of light from above, illuminating the Void. Earth Leader Lucinda wields an alchemical ladder and propels it downwards. It lands at my feet. Without hesitation, I start to climb. It’s more difficult than I imagined. I am dizzy, weak, and dehydrated, so I take it slow and steady. Just when I think I can’t take another step, a hand reaches mine and drags me to the top. Roman!

“Hey, stranger.”

I collapse into his arms.

“Roman, take her to the medics office immediately,” instructs High Power Omnisensus.

Once in the office, I try to recount the events that took placethree days ago. That’s what they told me—threedays. It seemed like an eternity.

The medic pronounces me physically fine, minus a slight chill and dehydration. I am given a fluid concoction from the Alchemy Laboratory to alleviate, and counteract, the effects of both conditions. She takes note of my missing Propensity-coloured finger, runs some tests, and confirms my Propensity magic is gone. She also insists I stay in the infirmary overnight to recuperate. I don’t see the point. Now my powers are gone, I have no purpose being in this realm.

“How are you feeling?”

It’s Roman coming in to check on me.
