A lightning bolt flies from the sky and strikes Psyche’s robes, pinning her in place, a weathered shackle. Her brilliant sapphire eyes are widened and scared.Good.

Alexandraya, dives from the strike and into the arms of Hermes who wraps her to him protectively.

I witness the hurt spread over Roman’s face and my heart lurches—thunder rumbles from the sky in response.

This storm is now out of control. The small cluster of gods at the ceremony are shielding themselves with their power but the electrical storm is gaining traction.

Hera yells to Zeus to put an end to the menace.

Instead of stopping the attack himself, Zeus steps forward and takes my hands in his. “Slow your mind, child. Close your eyes,” he says gently. An instruction from master to apprentice.

As my eyelids shut, my sight to the skies above is obstructed. My erratic breathing begins to subside, soon returning to its normal beat. The clouds respond to my body’s rhythm and revert to their previous wispy state in a peaceful cerulean sky.

A collective sigh of relief reverberates around the Arena, but an inquisitive awe settles in its place. I have demonstrated my power, and my bloodline, in front of the Olympian Gods.

“There will be no wedding today.” My father decrees as the spectacle dies down.

“No. Please no.” Alexandraya sobs amongst her confusion over the power I wielded.

Psyche, still pinned in position, has her attention focused on Hera. I witness a look pass between them that confuses me.

Zeus releases my mother and beckons her forward. Once Psyche is standing by his side, he says, “I think it’s time we acknowledge the child we conceived.”

There’s that look again between my father’s wife and my mother.

“What?!” Alexandraya says horrified.

Roman casts his eyes from Alexandraya to me. He looks at me like it’s the first time he’s really seen me. Seen beneath the shy, awkward exterior.

Zeus formally addresses the crowd, “I would like to introduce you all to Siriarna, Goddess of Above.”

Chapter31

Alexandraya

No. Oh my gods, no. What is going on? My head is spinning. Siriarna is here at my wedding on Mount Olympus. How did this happen? She’s not invited. She’s a nobody. And why has Psyche dug her nails into my arm at the sight of her. How does she know Siriarna?

Just when I thought seeing Siriarna was the worst thing that could happen, I spy Roman standing next to her. He’s here, at my wedding. Now this could get awkward. He was the perfect pawn in my game of godly chess. He served his purpose and was supposed to remain on Evolirium. I knew he’d be a little heartbroken at my disappearance from the realm, and without explanation no less. But all wars have casualties, even personal ones. Unfortunately, he was in the crossfire. I hope he’s not going to cause a problem. I don’t need an angry ex to wreak havoc with my carefully laid plans. Surely he knows he’s not part of my future. I mean, for gods’ sake I’m in a wedding dress, and he’s not the one standing at the end of the aisle.

Clouds have suddenly turned threatening above the Council Arena replacing the heavenly skies of mere moments ago. My beautiful day is turning thunderous, like my former gloriousmood.

The sound of the wind is terrifying and the rainfall is violent. No—my beautiful wedding—my flowers—my dress! The whole place is being destroyed.

Oh my gods’ it’s Siriarna! She’s causing the destruction. How is she wielding this power?

Zeus steps in and controls the situation. Of course he does, he’s the Ruler of all Gods and this catastrophic interruption is unacceptable. The skies clear and I’m ready to continue my wedding. After all, that is the reason we’re here. Regardless of my uninvited and unwanted guests, I want to marry Hermes and transition into the goddess I deserve to be.

WHAT. NO. NO. NO.

Siriarna is Zeus and Psyche’s daughter. How? I can’t make sense of this. Yet strangely, it makes total sense. Perhaps that’s because we’re related. That detail has left an icy finger clawing at my soul.

My wedding has been delayed. Destroyed by the very person I have despised since the moment I met her. I take a deep breath and remind myself this is temporary.

I hate her. I hate her more than I ever have.

I will have my vengeance.
