“Sorry I said it. As to the ‘once loved you’…” She shook her head. “That never ended, Noah. Not for the real Julie. The minute I saw you in Dr. Nizer’s office I knew I still loved you and always would. Maybe that’s what I’m trying to tell you but don’t know how. And I’m terrified of trusting it. Terrified of pulling you into another mess.”

“Hey, I’m a doctor. I’m not afraid of messy stuff.”

She chewed her bottom lip, then said, “So, I’m not just some female entertainment for you?”

He gave her a slightly annoyed look, then took her hand in his. “I’ll chalk that up to your trust issues making you blind to the one person who would do anything in the world for you.”

“I’m sorry,” she said, squeezing his hand. “But it’s been a long time since we hung out together. And you must have a social life where—”

“I’m not seeing anyone else, if that is what you’re asking. And if you can agree to the same rule and muster up some courage, we could give a second Noah-Julie thing a try. How about it?”

Her breath caught in her chest, and she was almost afraid to breathe for fear the words she’d just heard from Noah would disappear and turn out to be something she’d imagined. But his face had an expectant yet wary expression that pierced through to her heart and she blurted out, “Yes! I say yes. Unequivocally yes.”

And Noah pulled her in for a kiss, wrapping his arms around her.

Her face close to his, her voice soft, she said, “Thank you for giving me another chance.”

“Stop blaming yourself,” he said. “We all make mistakes.”

“And some of us make a lot more than others,” she shot back.

“It sounds like you’ve already had your share of suffering, Julie, and I’d like to give you the opposite. Let’s try to create some happiness for each other, okay?”

“Okay. You got a deal.” Then she pressed her lips briefly to his, saying, “Sealed with a kiss.”

They laughed and gathered their gear and headed to the car.

After pulling into her driveway, Julie opened the door to her house.

Noah said, “I’d like to shower off the salt water and put on dry clothes.”

“Me too,” she said, but as soon as they walked inside, Julie grabbed the collar ends of Noah’s shirt and pulled him down for another kiss. And this one was a scorcher.

He moaned into her mouth and lightning shot through her, the same kind of electricity that he had always ignited in her.

“I think you need company in the shower,” she mumbled against his lips.

His hungry mouth devoured hers, and she took his hand and led him upstairs to the master bedroom where her en suite bathroom was.

Not wanting to let go of each other, they stumbled across the room, pulling off pieces of clothing, then stepped into her walk-in glass-doored shower.

The spray hit them from both sides. Noah squirted a dollop of her peach bodywash into his palm and began sliding his hands all over Julie’s body, caressing her breasts, her butt and making his way to her pussy. God, she needed this, needed him.

He pulled her back against him, an arm around her, and massaged her clit. His finger slipped inside her, and Juliereached back to lift his hard shaft as she pressed her butt crack against it, grinding into him.

Noah backed up, put the tip of his dick at her opening, then thrust into her from behind. Moaning and whimpering, they built to a fever pitch. Julie flattened her hands on the tiled wall, bending forward to help him go deeper. One arm around her waist, one hand still caressing her clit, Noah rammed into her at a ruthless pace until she shouted out her orgasm and he followed her—into an ocean of ecstasy she had never experienced with anyone but him.

Instead of making dinner, they ended up making love in her bed after they got out of the shower, and lost track of time. So Noah offered to go get takeout while Julie went to pick up Molly.

She sent him to a restaurant that had a variety of burgers and chicken fingers and told him which kinds Molly liked. He also ordered regular and sweet potato fries, and a big salad bowl named the “Health Nut” that had romaine and kale that he figured Julie could divide into bowls for the three of them. He’d forgotten to ask about drinks and dessert, so he went ahead and included three vanilla shakes plus some brownies and cheesecake.

When he returned and saw Julie’s car, meaning she and Molly were already home, his usual confidence went out the window. He knew if Molly did not like him, his dream of having Julie back would be over—no matter how much Julie wanted him. She had already warned him that Molly could be shy or taciturn, sometimes clamming up around new people or focusing on things she did not like about them. She told him not to take it personally if that happened.

But the little girl had talked freely with him when he met her at the country club. He used to be good with his young cousins and the neighborhood kids, which was why he had originally intended to be a pediatrician. Taking a deep breath, Noah, opened the back door near the driveway and said, “Time to eat!”

A small girl in bright green shorts and shirt, her brown hair tied up in a ponytail, came bounding toward him. He still could not get over the fact that she looked exactly like a miniature Julie.

“Yay, food! Do you remember me, Dr. Noah?”
