Then, she winks at me. Fucking winks. And walks out of my office, swaying her hips as I glare at her backside. Fuck. My palm itches so damn bad right now. I need to start keeping track of her brattiness. One of these days, she’s going to find herself right where she belongs. Over my lap with a red ass.

“What the fuckis it with your wife and her threats?” I ask as I walk into Declan’s office.

Bash, Kieran, Grady, and Ronan are already in there. Declan laughs.

“Aye. She’s fucking ruthless, that girl,” Grady says.

Bash grins. “Better be careful. Ronan’s been teaching her knife throwing.”

I glare at Ronan. “Dude, what the fuck? She’s blood thirsty for cutting off fingers and toes and you’re letting her play with knives?”

Ronan, who seems completely unfazed by my scowl, shrugs. “She has good aim. I’d want her with me if shit ever went down. The girl is a savage.”

“Why did she threaten you?” Declan asks.

Bash hands me a glass of whiskey. The six of us usually end the day by having a drink together before returning to our own houses for the night.

“She wanted to know my intentions toward her sister.”

Declan snorts. “That’s my girl.”

“I got her blessing, though. And her threat to cut off my fingers and toes if I hurt Scarlet.”

They all burst out laughing. The scary part is, I’m pretty sure Cali would actually follow through on her threat. Ronan is right, the girl is a savage. And I love her all the more for it. Especially when she’s trying to protect her sister.

I’m about to curse them all out when one of our men, Cullen, rushes into the office, anger etched on his expression. The air immediately turns tense as we stand, knowing there’s a situation that needs immediate action.

“The cameras on the south side of the property caught movement. Three of them. We killed them before they breached the wall. Russians.” Cullen says, breathing heavily.

Declan starts barking out orders. Our end of day relaxation is now a total clusterfuck.

“Well, I was only fired byoneof my clients.”

Cali looks up. She’s perched on the floor in front of a coffee table. I’ve figured out this is her favorite living room in the house.

What kind of house has seven living rooms? Kind of excessive if you ask me. Although, I don’t hate the luxurious feeling of walking around such a big home. Surprisingly, it’s quite warm and homey. It needs a feminine touch, for sure. Some pink added to the décor would be good. I’m pretty sure my sister will make that happen.

All my personal belongings were brought to my room a few days ago in boxes and I finally pulled out my laptop and connected with my clients. Of course, I didn’t tell them I’d been kidnapped by some dude in the mafia. I work for a bunch of authors. Can you imagine the books they’d write about me? Not happening. Hell, I’ve always wanted to write a book. Maybe I should write my own mafia story. But instead of the heroine swearing off men, she falls madly in love with the hero who saved her. People love that shit.

So instead of telling them what really happened, I made up a story about a family emergency. Which is sort of the truth. Me being kidnapped was a family emergency for my sister. One of the authors fired me. I never liked working for her anyway. The others understood. I’ll be playing catch up for a while, but luckily, most of the work I do isn’t time sensitive.

“That’s good. I mean, another client will hire you. You’re good at your job,” Cali offers.

She’s right. I am good at my job. It’s something I’ve always loved doing. After high school, I built my business from the ground up. I found as many free courses on marketing, accounting, advertising, and graphic design as I could, and taught myself everything I needed to know.

“Want to do some diamond art with me?” she asks.

Oh. Hell, yes. I love diamond art. It distracts me, and I need that right now.

“Why are you kneeling on the floor?” I ask as I sit on the couch.

Her cheeks turn pink as she looks away from me. “Because my butt is sore.”
