“For what?”he asked.

“For not making me feel like some kind of freak.Zach always said people who took medications were weak.”

Doc let out a low growl.“Yeah, well, fuck Zach. That asshole can go kick rocks. He’s a loser and an abuser.”

Her eyes sparkled for the first time since he’d arrived on scene, and when she smiled at him, he felt his soul settle.

“Are you sure I can stay with you?”

“Positive.I live at the clubhouse.I have my own suite, though, so you’ll have some privacy. The girls will be thrilled to have you there.”

King returned with a bag of clothes and the stuffed cat Doc had seen during their video call.He also had a bottle of prescription medication that he handed to Doc.

“Thanks, man.”

“No problem.I can run by the store after shift and grab anything else she needs so you can get her home and comfortable.”

Doc nodded.Joining the MC had been one of the best decisions of his life. They were truly his brothers and had his back without question.Just as he did for them. They were a family, and they would accept Harper into their family too. He’d go as slow as she needed, but he knew one thing for sure.

She was his.

Seven

Harper

She wasn’t so sure about her decision to stay with Levi. Not that it had really beenherdecision. He’d pretty much told her.She didn’t have any other options, so it was either stay with him or sleep on the streets because she’d rather be homeless than go back to Zach. Thanks to Levi, she wouldn’t have to worry about that.

He stayed in the back of the ambulance with her on the way to the firehouse and even put her shoes on for her.She was quiet the entire time. She was exhausted, both physically and emotionally. The apartment manager had reassured her they would be contacting a restoration company first thing the next morning, but they didn’t know how long it would take. Her anxiety was through the roof, and the last thing she wanted to do was embarrass herself in front of Levi…again. So she focused on counting her breaths in the hope she wouldn’t have a panic attack.

When they got to the firehouse, Levi wrapped her in a blanket before they exited the ambulance and then held her hand as he led her inside.

“I need to fill out some paperwork, then grab my stuff. It won’t take long. Why don’t you curl up on the couch over there, and I’ll be right out.”He pointed toward a large common room.

No one else was in there, so she nodded. What she really wanted to do was follow him around like a puppy because she was feeling a bit more insecure and anxious than usual, but how weird would that be?He’d probably think she was needy and annoying.

He was only gone for ten minutes, and when he appeared in front of her, she was startled. She’d been dozing off.

“Can you walk, or do you want me to carry you?”he asked.

She sighed and pushed herself up.“I can walk.”

They went outside, and she expected him to direct her to his vehicle, but a truck pulled up and stopped in front of them.Harper turned to look at him.

“I rode my bike here. You’re too tired to ride tonight, so I asked Kade to come get us.”

Her bottom lip trembled. He was going to have her ride with a man she didn’t know. She’d met Kade once before, and he seemed like a nice enough guy, but she didn’t trust him like she trusted Levi.

“Baby, what’s wrong?”

“I can ride with you,” she said, hoping he’d change his mind.

Levi’s eyebrows furrowed. He reached out and cupped her chin.“It’s not safe for you to ride.My bike will be fine here overnight.Someone can bring me to get it tomorrow.”

Oh...Ohhhhh.He wasn’t going to leave her. What an idiot.Of course, she would panic and think the worst.

He lifted her into the back of the truck and grabbed the seatbelt. Then he paused as though waiting to see if she would protest. When she didn’t, he continued. His arm brushed against her sensitive nipple.Even though she was pretty much a walking zombie, her body still reacted.

Ten minutes later, they pulled into the MC compound. The clubhouse was quiet.Levi led her through the common area she’d been in before and down a long hall with closed doors on each side.At the end, he pulled out a set of keys to unlock his room. She hadn’t been sure what to expect, but it definitely wasn’t the tidy, homey living room they first entered.
