A handful of people had stopped to watch the scene unfold, and suddenly, Harper was very aware of all the attention. She whimpered and lowered her gaze, using her long blond hair to shield her face from view. The man in front of her must have realized how uncomfortable it was making her because he looked up at the people standing around.

“Everything’s fine here.Move along with your day,” he barked at the crowd.

As though they took orders from him on a regular basis, everyone went about their business, leaving her alone with this stranger. This stranger who was looking at her like he actually sawher. And she wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not.Having such undivided attention was something she liked to avoid as much as possible. It was better to fade into the background.Staying invisible was the key to survival.

Cars zoomed past them. She needed to get out of the road and go home to lick her wounds. In private.Without the most handsome—yet slightly terrifying—man hanging around to watch. When she pressed her hands to the ground to push herself up, she yelped and plopped back down on her sore bottom. She brought her hands up and whimpered when she saw how scraped up they were.

“Ouchie!”

“Hey, let me help you.I have a first-aid kit,” he said.

Before she could refuse, he scooped her up bridal style and carried her to a nearby bench where another man in an identical vest was standing. That man was much scarier looking. He was scowling, and when he pinned her with his dark eyes, she glanced away.

“She okay?”the man asked.

“She has some scrapes that need to be cleaned and bandaged, and then this Little girl needs a new ice cream cone.”

Her eyes widened as she stared at the man who’d come to her rescue.Did he know she was Little? Was she that obvious? No.Definitely not.But she was sure he’d emphasized the word Little.

“Storm, can you grab my first-aid kit and a bear?”

A bear?Was she hearing things?

The second man grunted, then moved to where their motorcycles were parked. She looked at the first man, completely confused, but he just smiled and winked at her.

“I’m Levi by the way.My friend over there is Storm. What’s your name, kitten?”

When her eyes widened at the pet name, he chuckled and pointed toward her backpack purse where she had a miniature stuffed kitten keychain hanging from the strap.Kittens were her favorite. They were so cute and fluffy. She definitely wasn’t as cute as a kitten, but she kind of liked the pet name.

She pulled her bottom lip between her teeth as he looked over her knees.“Harper.”

When he smiled at her, her heart pounded as though it was going to beat out of her chest. He was quite possibly the best-looking man she’d ever seen.Tall, dark hair, sparkling eyes, and a bright white smile. Not to mention the tattoos that were peeking out from the sleeves of his T-shirt.

“Harper’s a beautiful name.”

Heat spread to her cheeks, and she hoped they weren’t bright red.“Th-thank you.”

Storm didn’t try to talk to her when he handed Levi a first-aid kit.She was glad for that. The man was…intimidating, to say the least.

“I’m going to clean up your owwies, okay?It might hurt a bit, but I’ll be as careful as I can.”

Not wanting to be a big baby in front of him, Harper shook her head.“I’ll do it when I get home.I only live a few blocks from here.”

Levi knelt in front of her and met her gaze.“It’s better to clean them up now.Besides, you need another ice cream cone before you go home.”

Yeah.It was quite sad to see her delicious treat splattered all over the street. What a waste. That alone made her want to start crying again.

“Hold out your hands for me, kitten.”

When she obeyed, he flashed her a bright smile.“Good girl.”

A shiver ran down her spine at his praise. The deepness of his voice did other things to her body too.Things that she wasn’t going to acknowledge.Nope.Bad idea to go there.Men were on her hard-no list.

She watched as he cleaned her hands.Once he seemed satisfied, he applied antibiotic ointment and bandages, explaining what he was doing with each step.

“There.How’s that?”he asked.

After she’d inspected her hands, she smiled and nodded.“Better.Thank you.”
